These people are TOAST! If the Wanted to ACTUALLY Peacefully Protest they SHOULD have just BROKEN the CAPITOL WINDOWS, BEATEN CAPITOL POLICE, POOPED ON THE CAPITOL WALLS and USED WEAPONS!

[–] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Maybe even shit on a desk?

[–] oppy1984@lemm.ee 15 points 2 days ago

Breaking into the capital, causing physical damage, attacking police officers, stealing U.S. government property. That's defending democracy.

Standing outside a federal detention center where people are being illegally held. That rebellion.

Welcome to trump's America, peace I'd was, slavery is freedom.

OoooooooooK. So, who wants to start a betting pool on which day this week we get martial law? Price is Right rules?

Imma say Tuesday.

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 53 points 2 days ago (2 children)

This is basically a declaration of it.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 33 points 2 days ago (2 children)

OK, so I'll put you down for Monday?

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 days ago

I’ll take Wednesday for the over

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Do you happen to be open on Sundays?

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 6 points 2 days ago

Like, today?

It's a bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

I expect that declaration to be on his birthday parade when he gives his night of the long knives speech.

[–] dunidane@lemmy.sdf.org 12 points 2 days ago

He 100% wants it before his birthday

[–] DandomRude@lemmy.world 67 points 2 days ago (3 children)

To me, this looks like yet another sign that the current regime is striving for tyranny. That, in turn, would probably mean civil war, unless US citizens are willing to accept the end of democracy.

At least, that's how it looks to me, a European. Do you feel the same way?

I mean, it's pretty obvious that the US government doesn't care about the law. And then, to top it all off, there's this ridiculous military parade for Drump's birthday ... only someone with dictator ambitions would do something like that.

[–] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 64 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Yeah, the LA "riots" where super tame by riot AND LA standards. Like, they didn't even have to bust out the water cannons. A skateboarder tanked some tear gas and flipped them off. It's not like a bunch of people stormed the capitol building or something. This is the flimsiest excuse ever for martial law, so I have to assume it's another step towards tyranny.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 39 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Apparently storming the capitol building is cool with this administration though

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 days ago

that's been done before. maybe next time a different nearby building of a similar color could be chosen.

[–] DandomRude@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Yes, it's frightening.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I think they're using photos from other protests that make it seem more dramatic too.

[–] Pipster@lemmy.blahaj.zone 31 points 2 days ago (2 children)

To me this has been pretty obvious since they started following the Project 2025 manifesto line by line

[–] DandomRude@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Yes, I see it the same way. But it seems that implementation is now imminent, and I fear that resistance will be necessary, because soon it will probably be too late.

I'm from Germany, and the actions of the US government remind me eerily of the rise of the Nazis in my home country back then - almost as if history were repeating itself.

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

I assure you, we're thinking the same stuff.

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 days ago

Honestly, it could be seen on the distant horizon as far back as the Bush administration

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

From the ground, it feels like a lot of Americans are willing to trade their democracy for the illusion of peace.

[–] DandomRude@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

That's how it was in 1933, when the Nazis seized power in Germany.

If you choose to go out to help, sharpie the number of a local legal non profit helpline on your arm and leave your phone at home. Bring a sharpie to write the number on others arms. Mask up. Solidarity and safety, my friends.

People peacefully assembling to exercise their Constitutional rights, and the guy who planned, led, and launched an actual Insurrection which obviously attacked hundreds of cops wants to claim THAT'S a rebellion.

[–] Wilco@lemm.ee 31 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The funny consequences about labeling everything as an act of rebellion is that everything suddenly becomes an act of rebellion. The door opens and now we have to deal with rebels everywhere.

ICE cant be everywhere getting everyone because there is a fucking rebellion, so that means there are captured rebels in court, on trail, with jurors ... when the rebels start getting found not guilty by their local courts they are no longer rebels ... what are they? Revolutionists.

[–] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Nah, they just label the jurors rebels and send them to CECOT

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Hopefully the protestors can get organized enough to not be crushed. Good luck, stay safe.

[–] choco_crispies@lemmy.ml 24 points 2 days ago

Welcome to the rebellion.

[–] scathliath@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well, my reading of 10 U.S. Code § 12406 argues that he's full of shit. This is a law written in case of invasion.

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago

You’re so wrong. Well technically absolutely correct. However since might makes it right… you’re wrong since no one is standing up to stop it.

National protest. Shut down the Interstates. Hit them where it counts. Stocks and cash

[–] ryedaft@sh.itjust.works 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And what's a riot? Well you see, if a shopping cart is on fire then that's a riot. If the police show up in riot gear then that's a riot. If people stand up for their rights then that's a riot.

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

If people are in zoot suits, that’s a riot.

[–] HappySkullsplitter@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Get ready for another Kent State massacre x1000

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

feeling like fascist martial law. who could have seen it coming. i bet brandon would have stopped it. not socialists though, socialism is evil. 🙄

[–] ABetterTomorrow@lemm.ee 15 points 2 days ago

Oh cool, they’re arresting the the GOP, police and ICE?

[–] chrisbtoo@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago

What? The "land of the free"? Whoever told you that is your enemy.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago

guess that makes this saturday just that much better of a day since so much will be tied up in the stupid parade.

[–] sarcasticsunrise@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Kyle Kulinski has been calling this for months now. Well, awaaaaaay we go

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They forgot to cancel the second amendement first.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

They don't give a fuck about the 3 liberals with 1911s.
