Checks the clock "oh shit it's almost 9:30!" Feels very, very old suddenly.

I’ve been struggling to stay awake since 7.30, so think I’ve done pretty well lasting this long. Am also feeling old

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

yep, I'm going to do a little end of day tidying and then it's watching some tv time

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's miserable weather, but at least I can now be confident my heater is up to the task.

I've now done the setup for the outdoor security cameras, I just need the weather to improve enough for me to go outside and mount them. It's just a couple of screws to clamp on to the gutter so it shouldn't take too long - the hardest bit will be deciding the best postion for the one in the back yard.

Unfortunately my leave is over and I have to go to work tomorrow. My first night shift in ages, hopefully the novelty of meeting a bunch of new people and learning how to do my job in a different place will stop me falling asleep.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

Good luck. 😊

Gosh I feel like I've been a total shut in this week with what happened to me, catching up on work and the cold weather. Winter hibernation mode is activating big time. I've got a birthday dinner tomorrow night and actually looking forward to some social time with friends, I really need it.

Much better today! My head is still sore to the touch where I was hit but the headaches are reducing. Still a bit sensitive to super bright lights and loud people but I was never a fan of either to begin with haha

Have a great time. You deserve it.

very windy, house creaking πŸ«₯

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago

The wind seems to have died down a bit here. The feels like temp is now 0.3^o^ which is the warmest I've seen it all day!

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Our house backs onto a reserve and it's pretty open and north facing.

When it's windy, it's windy.

If not for roller shutters, our windows would have caved in several times now.

Had to go outside to throw some stuff away.

That wind out there is quite strong.

[–] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm so tired but I don't want to waste my Friday night. I haven't even had the weekly doughnut fries.

Might take a longer nap with Fluffball.

The new soft mattress topper calls to me lol.

I've got dessert on the way, went for a wake up walk and now I'm settled in for the night.

I want to play Claire obscura but I don't want to start till I finish doom. I'm one of those "one game at a time" people.

[–] Duenan@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

I’m going to try a double movie tonight. Accountant 1 and 2 though the footy is on at the moment so watching that.

If you’re headed off soon I hope you have a good night!

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

A while ago I confiscated a couple of vapes. Tonight we tried them out. Fuck. No wonder the kids are addicted to this shit.

It's pretty bad these days. They can get the disposables pretty much anywhere without ID.

The government got rid of the good guys and opened the gates to the blackmarket people to sell to kids.

[–] Duenan@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

What happened when you tried them?

I’m now nocturnal and kind of withdrawing from everyone. I think I’m getting really depressed.

15 more sleeps until the solstice. Then the sun starts to come back. Keep posting. We are here

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 7 points 1 day ago

Updates about melbcat are sweet, but I find it sweeter to read what you're up to, even if it's nothing at all. I care about you.

Fixing sleep is hard, and lack of vit d wouldn't help (I mean just even the sun on your skin, not even necessarily vitamin d)

Sending you my love and good vibes πŸ’œ

[–] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 7 points 1 day ago

There's a lot of good in you Melba. I don't think anyone else would've shown Melbcat the commitment and love that you've shown. Your care for her embodies the ideal of every being deserving a loving chance at life. Not many people can say that.

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 7 points 1 day ago

Stick with us, Melba. We care about you!

I just watched How to Train Your Dragon and I thought it was excellent.

But then I read reviews. People have said it ruins the books and turns them into a generic coming-of-age plot, and also if you liken Hiccup to an autistic person, it describes how society shits on autistic people and glorifies them when they exhibit savant like moments.

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

was this the life action or the cartoon?

But also; fuck the reviews. Your experience is your experience and what you take away is just that.

[–] LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Seconded on fuck the reviews.

Our entire world is run on and infinite treadmill of criticism. Your subjective experience is the only voice that matters when it comes to art and media.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago

If you enjoyed the movie then it was a good movie. Don't listen to the naysayers, your opinion counts. 😊

[–] useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I haven’t seen this movie or read this book, however I enjoy other perspectives on art. It actually helps solidify your opinion in some cases or it can open your eyes to ideas you might not have considered.

My dentist was late for the appointment. Her car was updating and she was left stranded for a bit. Both funny and sad.

Erin Patterson, a proven liar, sitting on the stand and claiming that everyone else is lying about her and what she said is actually wild.

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

There's a bloke in the US like that and he's currently the President.

If you believe your own lie, it'll manifest itself as truth.

She keeps asserting her lies until she gets completely cornered by the evidence and then changes the story and comes up with some excuse for the lies. Excuses like, oh I was embarrassed, oh I got confused, etc. I think she did it.

Well the punches keep rolling for the ol' girl.

Just learned yesterday big C. in the bowel. Looks like IV.

The last 8 months have been hell for her ever since that fall and now completely unrelated.. this. Pretty limited therapy when pushing 80yo. She'll be going in for an op but chemo/radio is out of the question. Working out the spread basically means just working out (guessing) how long.

Universe can be cruel.

e: Thanks all for the kind words.

Let’s say you’re at the supermarket; Is it against social norms to open a few punnets of strawberries and gather only the ripe ones to put in the punnet you eventually purchase?

Edit: also no, I have not done this personally

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago

Given they are sold as a pre-packaged item I think it would not just be against social norms, but could also be illegal. Especially if you have to break a seal to do it. It's like openeing a few bags of jelly snakes to consolidate the red ones because you don't like the mix.

It's not the same as the bag of grapes which are still weighed at checkout and just divided into bags for convenience.
