I am moved!

The moving guys were very efficient, and my sister was absolutely fabulous and kept Mr Woof out of trouble for me. He and Miss Meow are a bit perplexed as to what is going on and where we are, but doing ok. I will need to try to clear some boxes before dinner so there is somewhere to feed them. Also need to set up their water fountain and make my bed.

I still can't believe just how many boxes of stuff I have.

Hooray!! Congrats on the move! Now the unpacking joy! Enjoy your first night there!

Yay! Welcome to the new digs.

The person at my old job that was getting away with doing fuck all just got made redundant after asking for a raise.

Karma can be so so beautiful ...

[–] Duenan@aussie.zone 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Was it the person who kept asking you for help after you had left?

Today's edition of 'cats are not dogs'. Bit worried about kitty alone all day while I was in the office (my place is smaller than her normal home). Got home at five and had to go and find her in her little cubby hole. Not a care. Did get a cuddle and a purr though.

I sometimes worry about Gibson but then she basically sleeps all day lol

Bliss. Soxcat has decided to nestle on my lap in bed, for the second night in a row, of her own accord πŸ₯° even though the oodiecatbed is right there.

It will be sad to shuffle her off when it's time to sleep. For now, maybe I'll read an ebook...

aww, she's lovely 😘

These dog walks are such a mixed bag.

Today's highlight was going prone in the middle of camberwell road (again) and refusing to move because he saw another dog in the distance lol. I dunno how they do it but I swear dogs can make themselves heavier when they don't want to move.

Told off some ticket inspectors yesterday for not helping a little ol' granny get her pusher on the tram. They were extremely combative and aggressive lol. I've seen one of them before having a real go at a young foreign lady so it felt good.

Cowards who've been given a modicum of authority. Repugnant pieces of shit.

[–] Pilk@aussie.zone 8 points 4 days ago

You'd think they'd be seizing every opportunity to tip the karmic scales in the other direction.

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

There used to be tram conductors whose job was to help people. The ticket inspectors are just there to collect money

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I truly believe part of the purpose of inspectors is to make passengers feel bad and frightened

passengers who feel bad and frightened are less likely to demand a better service

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I remember the on the spot fines were so people wouldn't contest fines in court since Myki wasn't sound enough to holdup to legal scrutiny.

The inspectors were just there to scare people into making a quick buck so they wouldn't contest the shaky system the tickets were built on.

Feeling a bit cold, have an electric hot water bottle on my lap keeping me warm now.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I have a self heating model. Comes with a purr mode that activates randomly.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH

Moving day. I am still packing.

I thought to start the day with coffee and realised I have packed my teaspoons. I was able to find the emergency teaspoon from my work lunchbag, so complete disaster was averted.

Miss Meow is currently chomping on her drugged breakfast. Wobbles and confinement to follow.

Sleep well ❀️

Beautiful day out doing fieldwork in a large bushland area with no public access - I feel thoroughly restored and invigorated. Just as well because tomorrow looks like it'll be a bit shit... Must not forget to pack a thermos of piping hot water.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 4 days ago

I think it's going to be an early night tonight. Mr Woof "helped" make the bed. The new bed frame fits around the mattress quite tighly compared to the old one, it should help to keep the sheets in place much better.

I had pretty much everything I need for the first night and tomorrow packed and labeled to make things as easy as possible, but completely forgot about my slippers. They are packed in a box with all my shoes, which I think is somewhere in the garage. Fortunately my parting gift from work included some nice fluffy warm socks with grippy soles to wear inside, and I know where that basket is.

Survived my first day back, but I was very unsure of myself for the first half of the day - even after just two weeks 😬

Well that was an eventful morning train ride. Packed in like sardines as Metro cancelled a train during rush hour, then someone fainted in the train. I pressed the emergency button as I was right next to it, and a group of us helped the person out of the train. While this was all going down, people on the platform were trying to cram into the train and those of us helping were yelling to back off so we could get the person off the train. The next train was coming in 5 minutes, the desperation of people to cram in was nuts.

I have found a few things on the beach just like all those youtube mudlarks ( people who find stuff on beaches and river banks ) . I am excite and have spent many hours researching on google just like a real mudlark. πŸ€“ It's all so interesting.

the brown and cream shard of pottery is 18th C agate ware.

the two tiles are Roman mosaic, probably around 400.

The little terra cotta dish looks like old Gallo Roman ware from the 8th C.

I forgot to post the picture!!!

Struggle street this morning, feeling a bit shaky and overly emotional. Crying over people and animals I’ve never met.

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 8 points 4 days ago

The first ride to work on the new bike went well. I didn't properly record it but it seems like it takes about as long, could be a little bit faster than the regular bike. I also didn't feel sweaty or the need to shower, so there's a massive time saver there as well.

Overall, I think this has been a good move and I'm really happy with it

What fuckery is this? My jigsaw has an extra piece.

Ughhh. Why am I such a pack rat. I need to find the energy or the discipline to get more organised.

Might go through a storage bag of β€˜nice’ (aka seldom worn) clothes and cull most of the dresses. Inexpensive Kmarget brands and possibly a little dated but they’re still fairly new and nice enough in style that they might be taken by somewhere that gives women clothes for work.

There are some gardening books about building garden beds but quite honestly I don’t think I’m physically up to diy right now. A friend’s kid might like to have them (grandpa could help).

Shredding of paperwork will continue.

I’m mentally earmarking some other things to sell.

[–] mertn22@aussie.zone 2 points 3 days ago

It took me a month and an extra shredder to get rid of my paperwork. The horrible filing cabinet is now at the tip.

Anyone seeing the aurora? Last year when this happened I could see it through a camera in my backyard, this time no. I think yesterday was stronger but it was too cloudy.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 4 days ago

very light pink in the sky to the south

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 5 points 4 days ago

Amazon is evil but I am not going to get around to sawing the litterboxes down… I managed to find some with a really low side entrance made for senior cats. Fingers crossed that helps.

We’re going back to the vet soon to get a urine draw to figure out whether these antibiotics are working.

[–] mertn22@aussie.zone 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

How do you get the cat into the carrier to go to the vet more than once

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I’m really lucky that she’s pretty docile. She does go and hide in an awkward spot when she sees it come out and try to back out of the carrier when being put in, but it’s thankfully not the ordeal it is with other cats. (For those cats I use trickery.)

[–] mertn22@aussie.zone 1 points 2 days ago

The first two times I took her to the vet I laid a line of treats leading into the back of the carrier. Trickery I guess. Or bribery. I hope I get away with that technique for her yearly vax and checkup. I think that I am more nervous about the vet than the cat is.

Dream:

Moved overseas to do music. Met someone. Singing along to one of her originals.

Woke up suddenly and realised it's a Ben harper song I haven't thought of in years. Write it down to cover.

Ahh insomnia, just because I forgot to take my wafer ^(say it with a french accent like a wafer thin mint)^ doesn't mean you get to rear your fat head again ugh.

Maybe I pull an all nighter and have a smol nap and go to bed at a reasonable time to tomorrow she says knowing she'll prolly sleep all day πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ
