What happens to this women's home, possessions, job etc. Being kidnapped for 3 months?

[–] ziggurat@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago

Probably taken by the bank? If its not paid already

[–] manxu@piefed.social 33 points 1 day ago

Well, that makes perfect sense. After all, America is drowning in an overpopulation of competent health workers! /s

Maybe other countries should have "reciprocal" detention and deportation of U.S. citizens, until Trump comes begging for a mutual travel agreement.

Please no, many of us are seeking to escape the hostile totalitarian government that wants to kill us

And you're so welcome. Americans that actually leave north and central America are a hoot! And if my friendship group is a statistical basis, thre's an 80% chance they decide to just never go back to the US.

I already decided I'm not going back if I can help it. My new home feels like an upgrade, and the locals are happy to have me here.

If the US ever fixes its shit, I'll return every now and then to visit my loved ones, but I'm not holding my breath.

That would result in many/most Americans likely returning to US soil. trump would be quite happy with all American citizens forced back inside our borders. That means those that oppose him are easier to oppress/silence.

Proper procedure is to send anyone with a tattoo to El Salvador, if I understand correctly. "In a heartbeat", I think was the essence of due process. It was looked into by Trump and his team and they went ahead with it, so it must be legal. Anyone who doesn't want to be oppressed in the US can just get a tattoo. It seems to work.

[–] ZoopZeZoop@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

At this point, they'd poorly photoshop a tattoo on anyone to pretend in a pinch, and they'd tattoo you for real to make it look believable.

My understanding is that that is the old guidance. If you don't have a tattoo, they'll simply claim you do and when badgered for evidence they'll pull out a sharpie and mark up a photo of you to crudely indicate you have a tattoo.

I doubt Trump would care about those people, especially if they're dual citizens.

[–] danekrae@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

until Trump comes begging for a mutual travel agreement.

It' so sweet, that you think he cares about other people.

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Nah fam. They'd spin that as an act of war or something. They'd find some stupid fucking reason to use the military.

[–] Legume5534@lemm.ee 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This is the dumbest shit I've ever read.

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago

Today... Tomorrow brings a new low for sure.

[–] tangeli@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

Really? You haven't read about the tarrifs yet?
