One of the biggest crimes of the adaptations is not giving Dumby the fabulously colorful outfits he's rocking in the books.
Hopefully we'll see some more colourful outfits in the new series.
That might be just a uniform. Many old institutes (not in the sense of education but like in a "governmental institute") have some old-fashioned uniforms. Look at parade uniforms in many armies -- sometimes they look like they came straight from the XIX century.
Yes, the suit was a work uniform. He finally got to wear his fave robes in old age.
No career ladder left to climb, zero fucks left to give, he can just go full goblin mode and wear some comfy-ass robes and nobody is gonna say shit.
