The language is Telugu. So it's either in Andhra Pradesh or Telangana.
The script does look really close to Kannada though, so you weren't really that off.
Didn't think I'd see a Telugu post here on lemmy this early into the fediverse xD
I don't know the language either, and any guess I make will come off as North-India chauvinist XD maybe someone else here who knows the script will point it out
