RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

Been really getting into my Minecraft forever world and taking Obsidian notes! Obsessed

Finally resolved an issue with Tailscale and DNS. Unbound on my VPS kept serving records too slowly from a distant (~200ms) upstream DNS server, Tailscale would return SERVFAIL then iOS/macOS would cache it for a long time.

I’m not sure how it’s fixed but simply swapping out Unbound with Blocky solved the problem.

Actually making progress on getting some minis painted. I had an unsuccessful attempt at making a pearlescent insect wing and got glitter everywhere. Going to try a different method this week. Otherwise, the sword bandits, burning undead, and hives are ready for varnishing and the komuso monks and fire wizards are coming along. My painting is adequate, so they're nothing that's going to win contests, but I'm glad to have more things painted when my friends gather to play.picture of some painted miniatures

Made a fun little spiked leather bracelet

I'm late but it did happen in a wednesday. Played a duet session of the TTRPG Delta Green with my SO, and added an extremely forward male NPC to help her character out, which lended itself perfectly to me making her flustered irl and lightening up the mood, and also helped with the combat sections and parts where she might have felt stuck. Pretty great session!

I've been working on a home media server setup with all of my copied physical disks. I just got the backup ISP, and am working to get remote access to that specific server.

If anybody wants to do this, Jellyfin is a free source for a media server.

I imagine that you've seen it, but as your account is quite new, have a look at Selfhosted@lemmy.world. Lots of good people giving good advice :)

Hey I will. Thanks!

Home lab: attempting to get WireGuard working after my OpenVPN certificates expired and figured it’s time to switch

Cycling: half assed a brake bleed, need to go full steam to resolve my issues

I'm hammering out a set of solo RP oracles for actual publication. The first two (of four) are completed as of today.

I'm dying to start a solo campaign of The One Ring 2e. The new source book just came out with an Elf Lord option for solo play and that might just tip the scale

Nice! I wish I could get into solo RP but have never been able to find a game that works for me that way.

[–] theblips@lemm.ee 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Have you looked at journalling games? Thousand Year Old Vampire was pretty fun to me

[–] Toekneegee@lemm.ee 2 points 3 days ago

I've tried a few journaling games but can't find the motivation to play them regularly. At one point I thought about setting up an Obsidian vault to randomly pick a setup so I could just open the app and essentially start writing but even that I lost motivation for. I think solo RPGs just may not be for me, y'know?

I worked on the cross-stitch project I started. It's a freeform tapestry. I'm just cross-stitching whatever the fuck I feel like on it and not following a pattern. I haven't even finished the first part of the border yet. It's huge

Installed Arch Linux for the first time on an old laptop as guinea pig before my desktop. Wasn’t as difficult as I expected though there are definitely some oddities in the wiki that threw me off here and there.

Also finished a Necron that had been on my table for months!
