Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Seriously, why are they so small? It's like they're inviting my cellphone to fall out.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say OP isn’t wearing men’s relaxed fit Levi’s. As a joke I managed to fit an iPad mini in my front pocket. Just saying.

It looked stupid but it worked.

This is why more and more people I know are moving to mens working pants. I can fit my cellphone, sunglasses, earphones, wallet, keys, water bottle, a notepad, pen, pencil, sharpie and meal replacement shake in my pockets (I dont like carrying anything in my hand when walking to work)

I pretty much exclusively wear work pants and they're alright when you're standing up but the second you sit down your phone jabs straight into you, sure I could put it in the thigh pocket but then the weight feels weird around my knee

yeah, when i'm working I end up leaving everything but my watch in my lunch pail. Half because it can be uncomfortable squatting with it and half I dont want them broken/flung or what not out.

I lept my wallet once while working....never agian. A Kid kept tapping my wallet in my pocket, repeating "Whats in your pants teacher" over and over. I was busy with other children and so had to live with that for like 30 srconds.

My favorite hoodie has a bunch of features like this. Zipper is a bottle opener, it has various specialized pockets hidden throughout, the front chest pocket is designed to be a coozie/can holder, pretty sure you can run headphones through it somehow, it folds into a pillow, it's lined with reflective material in the seams, etc. It is/was amazing, but it ripped in a way I haven't been able to keep repaired after years of wear. :(

So I recently bought a couple pairs of pants from Duluth trading company, and I've gotta say, I'm loving the enormous array of pockets they have. Yesterday I discovered that the pants have an inside pocket with a zipper. I literally hadn't noticed that before.

I mean, I'm not really sure how I'd use that inside pocket. I'd have to literally unzip the fly to access it... But it's there.

ive heard womens pockets are small (or nonexistent) because 'they ruin the silhouette'

[–] Papanca@lemmy.world 13 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Funny thing is; i have never, ever heard even one woman complaining about silhouette because of pockets. But every woman complains about lack of pockets, or that they are ridiculously small

wouldnt a company that made clothes with larger pockets corner the market?

I can fit a friggin' tablet in my pockets. But I am also tall and wide and have big pants.

We get it, you still wear JNCO jeans.

[–] MoreFPSmorebetter@lemmy.zip 6 points 5 days ago

I still find it absolutely hilarious that I know you can fit an entire N64 in the pockets of JNCO jeans. Absolutely legendary pants.

[–] Cort@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Is kolanaki even old enough to know what those are?

[–] smock9@lemm.ee 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Answer in Progress did some research about this; at least for women's pants https://youtu.be/jA_elEw-Oog

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

I saw that, it's a pretty good video.

What are you talking about all my pants have giant pockets that the whole phone fits in with room to spare

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

Yeah, I have no issues with slacks, relaxed fit jeans, any shorts, etc. I do have one pair of not very loose jeans that my phone barely fits into, but it still does.

Phone is the largest sized galaxy and I'm pretty much the average US male size.

every day we stray further away from JNCO

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 7 points 5 days ago

A lot of cellphones are unreasonably large, these days, too.

TBH I don't like keeping stuff in my pants pockets anyway. Feels uncomfortable.

[–] Nollij@sopuli.xyz 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Why do they keep making them like that?

Because you keep buying them.

You had a choice of buying clothes with bigger pockets. Regardless of the reasons or trade-offs, you chose the ones with the smaller pockets. It's the same reason that women's clothing often lacks pockets.

[–] PassingDuchy@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

That's not true for women's clothes... It's sundresses right now and I'm getting all the ones with pockets I can find and so are a bunch of other women, they sell out fast. The issue is the pockets are usually incorrectly positioned and rotated in such a way anything you put in them falls out on top of being tiny so now things are 2x more likely to fall out AND you're constantly patting yourself down to find the damn pocket. I had one I really wanted to buy, but couldn't cause the pocket was angled for me to be covertly groin shooting someone with a gun, not making sure my keys stay on my person lol.

My Lenovo flip has a vegan leather back a.k.a. rubber. It never falls out of my pocket and I always have a firm grip on it, which I love. Unlike my Samsung flip which was so slippery. Once pulling out of my pocket, I somehow squeeze it in a way that went flying up hit the elevator ceiling, wall, wall, floor. Lie down on the couch cell phone hits the floor, sit down on a recliner, Cell phone is somewhere hidden in the bowels of the recliner. I was always dealing with Samsung repair for that thing. So I’d ask, why do they make them so slippery, but I already know.
