*How to love someone with anxiety after going insane from carrying the entire mental load while they refuse to get help.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago

This brings to mind the highly underrated movie Stuart Saves His Family. Surviving toxic people is hard, but it's even harder for anyone with anxiety disorders.

Beautiful, society is healing

My father must have written that list from the pinewood box he's in.

Repeat yourself? Why?

I'm confused.

Hey, it’s a list of my ex husbands favorite tips and tricks!

Did you know that “square breathing” exercises are not helpful when someone’s yelling at you to do them?

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 7 points 19 hours ago

I'm sorry to hear about your bastard ex husband. The only thing that's really helped my anxiety is drugs. I'm guessing you've tried that though. Square breathing never really worked for me. Hope things are better now.

[–] Doom@ttrpg.network 12 points 19 hours ago

Wow my ex must've taken this post to heart

So this is the guide my parents used

[–] Yuyarl@sh.itjust.works 89 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I know many people who handled it just fine, it must be a you problem. You probably misunderstood them most of the time. I'm sure they just wanted the best for you. A friend of mine handled it just fine and turned out a better person than most. Really, you must be overreacting to something that was probably just discipline. Surely, they wished the best for you and tried to build your character.

Wow, that's some exceptional train of thought stuff.

Ouch. AF.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 1 day ago

You’re just ungrateful.

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 33 points 1 day ago

Yeah... i started tensing up halfway through reading this.

[–] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

Been out of the house for 20 years, things have never changed.

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 27 points 1 day ago

Anything you say, do, or express interest in, can and will be used against you.

[–] raod_guitar@feddit.org 41 points 1 day ago

Never tell them what you want. Only be passive aggressively pissed off when they don't do it.

[–] peteypete420@sh.itjust.works 4 points 20 hours ago

These tips actually work for most loved ones.

Have you ever tried gaslighting someone?

That shit isn’t as easy as they make it sound.

[–] Carrot@lemmy.today 23 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Gaslighting? I'm pretty sure the term you're looking for is gaslamping. Don't worry, it's a pretty common mistake for people to make.

are you sure it's gaslamping? last i heard gaslamping is a term for when you start making random shit into gas lamps for no particular reason, seems to be a weird anomalous quality of certain post industrialized human societies.

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 9 points 23 hours ago

Oh my god! I can't believe OP mistook gaslighting for gaslamping... I thought that that was one of those mistakes nobody does anymore.

[–] King3d@lemmy.world 57 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

There’s no such thing as gaslighting. You’re making it up because you're paranoid that everyone’s out to get you.

[–] lugal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 day ago

Are you gaslighting me into thinking no one is ever gone gaslight me so it's easier for your co conspirator to gaslight me in the future? I'm not making things up! People are up against me and your comment is proof!

[–] AFaithfulNihilist@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

that shit isn't as easy as they make it sound.

Yeah it is. You must be remembering it wrong.

[–] OmegaLemmy@discuss.online 7 points 1 day ago

Nearly everyone gets gaslit if you try, what do you mean?

[–] peregrin5@lemm.ee 5 points 1 day ago

That's because the real term is gas-lamping, not gas-lighting. The term was invented around the Victorian period where the primary source of lighting were gas-lamps.

[–] raoulduke85@lemm.ee 5 points 1 day ago

I get annoyed when my wife uses that term every time I disagree with her.

[–] Tai@lemm.ee 4 points 1 day ago

What are you talking about? It's super easy you idiot.

^/s^

[–] CidVicious@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

The secret is persistence.

[–] Xanthrax@lemmy.world 40 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I have ADD, and my partner has GAD. I always feel bad about the pacing. 90% of the time, I've lost my train of thought/ something. I noticed if I say, "I'm fine; I'm just looking for something.", it helps a lot. She describes them as "frantic footsteps". I can understand why that would freak people out.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

I could be wrong but I think the pacing referred to in this post is a physical manifestation of impatience.

[–] AgentOrangesicle@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago
[–] AFC1886VCC@reddthat.com 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Pace around for no fucking reason" this sounds hilarious, it would even irritate people without anxiety.

[–] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 day ago

For me, its not that it would be irritating, but rather spike my anxiety and makee very uncomfortable, a feeling of being unsafe moreso than irratation

[–] papalonian@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)
