I am using an RoG Ally and was using Bazzite. I'm currently back on Windows (for warranty purpose. I literally can't stand the Windows experience on handhelds). Once I get my device back, I have to decide between SteamOS and Bazzite.

I saw the latest SteamOS release works quite well, except for voltage control (I know you can control it using SimpleTDPcontrol).

If I want to tinker, I can always go back to Bazzite. But Bazzite has some very minor issues (screenshot does not work OOTB/gyro support is slightly cumbersome as you need to switch controller type/no fingerprint support). I have used it for 6 months and the experience for gaming has been fantastic. The Bazzite devs have all my support.

So my question is will we ever get a proper signal from Valve saying "Yup, it's now fully compatible with the RoG Ally". Right now, i'm getting the message "We are slowly adding support for the Ally. Only features x,y and z are not working".

Are any of you Bazzite users thinking of jumping ship?

I have doubts there will ever be such formal announcements for devices that don't run SteamOS out of the box. With more OEMs deciding to ship SteamOS, for other devices will work better as a side effect.

There's no reason this should impact your warranty. But also your ASUS warranty is meaningless anyway. Unless you want your device held for a ransom.

Yes but only Valve can tell you when. I suspect very soon. Possibly when the Legion Go S is officially available.

I currently have an issue with my device. The SD card reader is faulty. It was not working on Bazzite. I thought maybe it might work on Windows (but chances were low). I installed Window and saw the SD card reader was indeed fried.

Now if I submit my device with Bazzite to the Asus representative, they might say "different OS, we can't help! hurr durr" and send me back. You can't argue with these on-field agents. I took the safe way and replicated the problem on Windows.

I heard some technicians replace the MB, apply proper shielding, adjust the fan curves, during the repair process so that the issue does not repeat. I'm hoping for this outcome.

So you're going to be sending it in for RMA then?

Yes.

Right now I'm documenting the fault and status of the device. I have heard that Asus sometimes "add" extra damage to the device so that they can claim it's not covered under the warranty.

I would seriously reconsider it if I were you. If you haven't seen the Gamers Nexus reporting on this, you should. They will take the devices, claim a bunch of damage that has nothing to do with what you sent it in for, claim that it needs a bunch of repairs that it doesn't, then hold it for ransom until you pay it.

I do believe we'll hit a point where they announce official support. But it's valve time so it's hard to say when. I'm the meantime I would probably stick to Bazzite, but it's your call.
