In this economy?

Obviously something to get my mind off this economy.

  • Gris
  • Balatro
  • mirror's Edge
  • Horizon Forbidden West (saving this one for desktop)

E: refunded Mirror's Edge, it was running at like 5 FPS on low settings.

E2: picked up Mirror's Edge on GoG instead for the same price ($3). Disabled PhysX and it runs like a dream.

mirrors edge is a gem, and i played the whole thing on deck years ago, it ran flawlessly!

In the future try checking ProtonDB before buying/refunding. For Mirror's Edge in particular, it seems all you have to do is disable PhysX.

ProtonDB is an amazing tool, everyone should check it out!

Nice. Well I happened to see it on sale on GoG and I prefer to buy from there anyway so I'll give it another try.

Gris is great. Small, but beautiful.

[–] mohab@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

If anyone can afford it, I recommend the Neva + Gris bundle. Neva is even better, IMO.

Were there any physx settings turned on when running Mirror's Edge? It can bring a 5090 to it's knees due to removal of 32bit physx support. Great recent gamer's nexus video on it. Anyway, physx running on the CPU with Mirror's Edge kills fps

[–] Ulrich@feddit.org 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes. What do I do about that?

[–] Snoopey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 weeks ago

Basically only option right now is to turn off anything physx in older games like mirrors edge. Should solve the fps issue

[–] Inf_V@kbin.earth 14 points 2 weeks ago

none, can't afford anything.

[–] AarynBlack@lemm.ee 13 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

It's it just me, or do these sales get worse every year?

[–] Panron@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Fortunately, price info is actually tracked! If you use the SteamDB browser extension you can see the historical low price right on a game's product page on Steam.

For example, Terraria is on sale for it's 2 year low price of $4.99, but the lowest it's ever been is $1.99 (a little over ten years ago).

[–] AarynBlack@lemm.ee 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oooo nice, I did not know about that, thank you!

[–] bob_lemon@feddit.org 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

https://www.isthereanydeal.com/

This site not only shows you historical data on steam, but on 3rd party sites and other launchers as well (fully configurable). And it'll send you a mail is any game in your wait list meets any of the criteria you set (e.g. under $10, lowest historical price, etc.)

[–] AarynBlack@lemm.ee 3 points 2 weeks ago

That's definitely getting bookmarked, thanks!

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago

The sales were way better maybe like 10 years or so ago, but when they ended the "flash sales" to instead guarantee that the sale price of a game won't change during the sale, they also kind of neutered the sales imo. They're still alright, but they used to be consistently better.

I get why they ended the flash sales, and I'm not even sure if it's related or just a separate choice that they made at the same time.

I've been eyeing Signals, Children of the Sun, Jusant, and Weird West for some time now. Maybe Floppy Knights and FAR Changing Tides too

[–] hangonasecond@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Jusant is cool. Deck runs kinda loud but the gameplay is very enjoyable on controller.

[–] mrfriki@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They gave away Weird West on Epic a while ago. I checked it on Game Pass and had to quit it. The atmosphere is very good and overall looks interesting but the controls were awful for me to get used to. If you are going to get it I recommend checking it before the return window expires, just in case.

[–] inlandempire@jlai.lu 2 points 2 weeks ago

Thanks for the heads up! I'm a fan of the people behind it and follow the development closely so I'm kind of biased and know what I'm getting into haha

[–] pathief@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I bought Dredge and Nine Sols!

[–] PrincessKadath@ani.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

Dredge is great.

[–] SchwertImStein@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

Both are terrific

[–] ssroxnak@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

I told myself not to buy any games until KCD2 is out on GOG. But I am tempted

[–] madnerds@lemm.ee 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Helldivers 2, fingers crossed it runs decent

[–] PrincessKadath@ani.social 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Helldivers 2 runs great on my Steam Deck LCD. Great game.

[–] PrincessKadath@ani.social 1 points 2 weeks ago
[–] danielquinn@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I've stopped buying from Steam on account of their country threatening to annex mine. GOG is looking good though.

[–] mrfriki@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Probably Zomboid, been eyeing it for a while. And maybe Heavy Rain, at €2 it’s very tempting.

[–] cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

i have a lot to get but i recently surprise bought blobun just because of this > https://www.polygon.com/gaming/538959/blobun-lesbian-toggle-steam-lgbtq-option-setting

[–] Stampela@startrek.website 5 points 2 weeks ago

I got Warplanes Air Corp and also Battle over the Pacific. And Dragon Age Veilguard.

However, lol, the servers must be a little overloaded, it’s downloading at dozens of megabits and, running a speed test at the same time gave me over 700 so yeah. It’ll take some patience XD

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemm.ee 5 points 2 weeks ago

Not enough college financial aid left for me to be able to, otherwise I'd have to look at my wishlist and see what's available for a good price.

[–] keyez@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Finally gonna pull the trigger on the dead space remake.

Also waiting for The Last of Us Part 1, Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Raganarok to go below $25 because I still have a handful of other games to finish and start.

[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, I have a pretty good list of Sony games I'm just waiting on better sales on.

Like the first Spiderman should really be selling for cheaper now that both Miles and 2 are out.

[–] aevek@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Picked up Thank Goodness You're Here and currently trying to see if I can get Wanderstop running well.

[–] lambda@programming.dev 1 points 2 weeks ago

Thank goodness you're here is so good!

[–] Twinklebreeze@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yakuza Kiwami 2 and Dead Cells already bought.

[–] cron@feddit.org 2 points 2 weeks ago

I bought Station to Station, a nice peaceful train simulation game.

[–] atrielienz@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Aestik it's been on my wishlist for awhile and I don't see a reason not to pick it up at the current sale price.

[–] TedZanzibar@feddit.uk 2 points 2 weeks ago

I bought Mad Max because I originally played it when it was on Game Pass years ago and would like to do another run.

For the Deck specifically I got Art of Rally, Rogue Legacy 2, and Deep Rock Survivor. I've been playing a lot of Deep Rock Survivor.
