Lol. What Kamala may have done vs what trump said he would do, and what his previous term indicated hr definitely would've done. The us chose unwisely. This timeline sucks.

[–] sik0fewl@lemmy.ca 14 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Isn't his plan to upset the current world order? What's not working exactly?

I know nations have been banding together to figure out how to operate without the support of the US, but that alone seems to me like it's working.

[–] frezik@midwest.social 2 points 7 hours ago

It's supposed to be upsetting the current world order for his own benefit. It's not going to work out that way, because he's knocking out the system that supports him.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 159 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Trumpism is working exactly as intended and must be destroyed.

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 71 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Exactly. trump was intended to destroy America from within. It is working perfectly in that regard.

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant to step the ocean and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia, and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest, with a Bonaparte for a commander, could not by force take a drink from the Ohio or make a track on the Blue Ridge in a trial of a thousand years. At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer. If it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us; it cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen we must live through all time or die by suicide.

-Abraham Lincoln, Lyceum address

Exactly which realistic expectations about trump are unmet?

For those of us who have bern paying attention this is very much what we said would happen.

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 50 points 1 day ago

It's working perfectly, it just runs counter to American interests. None of this is happening by accident.

[–] slickgoat@lemmy.world 17 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

That conspiracy that Trump was recruited by the Soviets as an agent in the 1980s is sounding less and less of a conspiracy every day.

[–] monkeyslikebananas2@lemmy.world 9 points 9 hours ago

Because it isn’t a conspiracy theory. It isn’t even that complicated. He’s an extreme narcissist (born with a gold spoon up his ass). They make him feel good, and he’ll do anything to keep getting the ego stroke.

They loan him money, bail him out, stroke his ego, and he’ll happily burn the country to the ground. And when it is said and done, he’ll be incapable of understanding his part in it.

As if another 4yrs was needed to come to the most obvious conclusion.

[–] Lon3star@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The US will be fortunate if it is only 4

[–] tuxiqae@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 hours ago

The entire world will

[–] Canonical_Warlock@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

We may not last 4 years. It's only been 2 months.

[–] Lon3star@lemmy.world 8 points 18 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Muehe@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 hours ago

Feels like decades though...

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 56 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Its working as intended for russia and china

[–] sunbrrnslapper@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (5 children)

I have been wondering what kind of dirt Russia/China have on these guys for them to behave so profoundly un-American.

[–] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.zip 1 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

There is no dirt that could damage Trump, murder? pedophilia? Nothing would make a dent on the guy's reputation.

It has to be something else

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Maybe stealing classified documents and then showing them to a journalist while saying "I stole these, I shouldn't have them, I shouldn't be showing them to you, I could have declassified them while I was president, but I cant't now"?

[–] sunbrrnslapper@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Who knows... It must be terrible tho.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Russia has been grooming Trump since the 80s. You think Trump of all people is a good business man? There is a reason so many businesses he had failed. Russian money laundering. The man knew how to create business, funnel money, then bankrupt them.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

iirc he's still carrying over losses on taxes from those many years ago.

[–] ToadOfHypnosis@lemm.ee 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It may be dirt, but I don’t think they need to have dirt on a guy like Trump. Trump is 100% transactional. As long as Russia rewards Trump for his efforts, he has zero qualms with fucking over his own country. He’s an evil piece of shit and Russia aligns with his financial goals.

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

Trump is the kind of loser who would become a russian puppet for clout.

The simplest explanation is that they both have significant business interests in Russia and China and that archived video of their weird dicks are in Vladimir Putin’s classic film collection next to his Wild Wild West laserdisc, which he meticulously alphabetizes.

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What about what they’re doing is “un-American”? Sure it goes against the idea of what US propaganda says it’s like there but this is what it’s always been at the core. They’re just saying it outloud now.

The US has always been an “I got mine” state. It’s reaping what it’s sown.

[–] jbloggs777@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 day ago

Domestically, mostly, but this is a huge acceleration - end game style.

One of the great (and frustrating) features of functioning/stable democracies is that the ruling party typically can't change too much too fast. So there are minor changes, pulling the country a little here, and a little there. It's hard to royally fuck up a country in these stable democracies... but the US is no longer a stable democracy.

The USA's international policy has been pretty consistent for a LONG time, no matter the ruling party. Spreading democracy (sometimes far better than at home), fighting terrorism/drugs/axis of evil, etc. through a mix of soft power, military power, and international institutes (more soft power). The aim was always to make/keep America (and in particular the 1%) rich and powerful.

What we are seeing now is the destruction of US influence and power abroad. It's a successful (almost certainly) russian operation, now led by team trump.

Domestically, it should result in an uproar... class and civil warfare, destroying the final illusions of American Values. But a strong minority (100 protestors is enough with a little camera work) will scream and shout for more face eating, and the troops will intervene on their behalf, ensuring that the majority line up peacefully to watch the leopards. Even the best case scenarios are pretty grim. The trajectory has been set (many years ago now) and the ball is rolling faster than ever.

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 14 points 1 day ago

It's not fair to call this trumpism. Give credit where it's due - this is putinism.

The thing I find fascinating is that normally fascism is a self-destructive attempt to increase a nation's power whereas here the goal is to weaken and break the power of the US.

As everyone is pointing out, it's achieving that goal.

[–] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Would be worried if it is working

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Who knew turning America into North Korea wouldn't cause it to flourish?
