TBH, I made a rule for myself that I need to wait 30 days before putting money into a new fixation. It's helped me not to waste a ton of money.

That's generally a very good rule.
Personally if there is something I want I tell myself to wait at least a week, look at alternatives, etc and then see if I still "need" it.
Day 1: This time I'll finish my game I'm making!
Day 5 (after wrecking my sleep schedule and several skipping meals): alright, I put in a lot of work on the foundation, building the game will be easy
Day 6: stare at screen for 3 hours without doing anything, go back to bed.
DAY 27: I'm going to restart that game, this time I'll finish it, the old one is kind of a mess anyways.
Why you do me like this OP? It's too early to get hit this hard.
Your tears sustain me
Oof, I feel this. I hyperfixated on ttrpgs recently, and scheduled two tables to run though July at least....and I can feel myself burning out and losing interest (in being a GM). I guess the good news is I'm more afraid of losing my friends than doing something my interest has faded on.
It hurts when you say these things!
It's currently rimworld again.
Get religion and you'll have something to hyperfixate for eternity.
