The older I get the more I appreciate Filthy Frank for enduring the suffering for content instead of outsourcing it.

He did use that old guy for Dracula flow, but it wouldn't have worked without that specific guy though

It's just slightly classier BumFights
How did it get approved? Why does he still have a career?

Isn't it being produced by Amazon? Seems pretty on brand for them.

Netflix: takes chance on relatively unknown creators' dystopic fiction show about capitalism and the rich exploiting the poor for entertainment

sees program become a surprise mega-success

makes a reality show emulating the plot of the show, for profit

They basically built the fucking Torment Nexus! 🤦

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 41 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I mean that should have been obvious when they turned a dystopian novel into the bluprint for reality TV. It's called Big Brother for a reason. Movies like The Truman Show and EdTV showed the dark side of being under constant public surveillance and now influencers turn their lifes into reallity TV willingly.

and now influencers ...

And we absolutely eat that shit up. We donate our money to them, buy their shit, and regurgitate every fucking thing they say as if they were goddamn prophets.

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

The Truman Show is not a good representation of the realities of influencers semi-permanent visibility.

The choice to do it is the first, and major, difference.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Why would he see it? He is one of the rich people who want us to dance for him.

[–] Deme@sopuli.xyz 30 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Perhaps, but I'm still not going back there.

[–] LifeLemons@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Me neither, I just scrap the reddit to add some media to my shitpost collection

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Why do you remove your own upvote from a lot of your comments?

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

People used to do it on reddit. It's just anonymous social media hard mode.

[–] LifeLemons@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

How the hell you know this? I just don't like praising my own comment

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Your comment was at 0 upvoted and 0 downvotes, which is only possible if you manually remove your own upvote.

[–] LifeLemons@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

You said a lot of my comments, so I assume you ewent into my profile? This comment doesnt have any votes but my other comments have votes by others. So I was curious

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Ah so yeah. I noticed it was at 0/0 which was odd so I did a quick click on your profile. Tbh I didn't really read any of the content lol. But the 0/0s kind of jump out.

[–] xor@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

who upvotes is part of the data provided, i think, but most lemming clients don’t show it….
i think i read that somewhere once

[–] LifeLemons@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

In mastodon, who likes it are shown. Is this same with lemmy? How can I view it?

[–] xor@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

i think you need to run an instance of your own.
(p.s. i don’t know though, find a lemmy dev community)

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

It adds a sense of mystery
