my kid likes to postpone her homework infinitely ( just like me when I was in school... I think it's my genes working ... sh*t ) .

How to handle this scenario.

Thanks,

How old is she?

Kids mimic: has she seen you postponing your own “homework” until the last minute? Cooking, cleaning up and so on? In particular since you said that’s your genes at work.

Do you offer her a good moment to do her homework? Like a quiet time as soon as you both get home during which nothing exciting happens or can happen?

These are just suggestions from my own childhood, so feel free to discard everything, but I hope they can be useful to start some brainstorming!

Ok.

She's 4 year old. I try by offering cycling , walking to the paddy fields etc...and she starts to do homework ( its only 5-10 min task ). In 1-2 minutes , she loses concentration and move to something else.( Turns on TV , but not allowed to touch remote. Or go out and mimicks me by planting leaves/sticks from kitchen farm :) ).

My wife is better at managing the kid.. But, I cannot get it to there.

Seems like the marshmallow problem. Even if she knows there is reward, she gets sidetracked.

Can you try doing your own “homework” while she has to? Like sitting down and reading a book next to her, to drop potential distractions. Maybe more actively redirecting her towards her homework?

All the best! Since you have a winner in the house, you might be able to decript what your wife does ;)

What kind of homework does a 4 year old have to do that is 15 minutes long?

I find it pretty normal for such a young kid to struggle doing unwanted tasks for 15 minutes straight.

Slice the homework into small chunks and allow her to alternate: bit of homework - play for a short period of time (15 mins? 5 mins?) - bit of homework - play for a short period of time

It seems like this proposal will make the completion of homework take more time than sitting down and doing it one go, but if you add in the procrastination and struggle of sitting down and doing it in one go, this is actually shorter in time frame.
