Wow. The amount of physical sets is quite surprising, along with some practical effects like those cactus cubes.
I'm also surprised this film took so long to be greenlit and created, considering The Lego Movie's success ten years ago.

Just watched it yesterday, still a very solid movie
The movie idea was probably a given once the games success hit the big time. It's usually trying to form an idea for the film that took the time.
Microsoft wanted strict control over the Halo film, if I remember correctly, as this is partly why it never happened.
