Tangent but.. Wow it didn’t even occur to me that paludariums were so named because that’s the type of ecosystem they are mimicking, rather than some guy named Paul invested a cool-style terrarium/aquarium merger.. (example below)

TIL!

Does Forest not count? Gump is sad.

[–] Freefall@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Xeric Shrubland is going to Google his name in 16 years and dedicate his life to hunting you down.

I know a kid named River 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 9 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I do as well. She's a real badass too

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 5 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

And she can kill you with her brain.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

We're possibly talking about different people, unless the River I know has latent superpowers that I'm unaware of.

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 5 points 1 hour ago

I'm thinking of River Tam, from Firefly.

Whether she can or can't do that is still debatable, but she did tell Jayne she could. And she can read minds, so it's not entirely out of the question...

No, lol. My cousin’s real-life 5 yr old son.

[–] shai_hulud@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago

I'm going to change my name to Peat Bog

Theorycrafting this - Tundra would be a nice name. So would Mesa, Fen, and Delta.

Sitting behind these hairdos in class and at the theater definitely sucked back in the 80's.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 17 points 3 hours ago

What about For(r)est Gump?

[–] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 17 points 3 hours ago

Taiga is a nice name too

[–] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 hours ago

Ephemeral Pond IIII. I am named after my great grandfather.

[–] will_a113@lemmy.ml 21 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Xeric Shrubland is definitely a LOTR character.

[–] salvaria@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Xeric as a name actually sounds kinda badass

[–] Skua@kbin.earth 13 points 3 hours ago

If I ever see it as a name I'm just going to assume it's someone who was named Eric by his parents and had it changed to be edgier when he was fourteen

[–] Ma10gan@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 hours ago

My beautiful sons Lupine Meadow and Coastal Sage Scrub.

[–] burgersc12@mander.xyz 3 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Naming my kid Tundra or Elfin now, thanks!

[–] bizarroland@fedia.io 4 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Xeric sounds kind of like a cool name to give a kid if you want that kid to suffer for their entire life.

But then again they could rise above it and become a cool person, maybe not quite on the level of Streetlamp leMoose but close.

[–] Votes@lemm.ee 4 points 2 hours ago

They'd be pretty popular with the Runescape crowd, for whatever that's worth.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 8 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

If I have a daughter, I'll name her Swamp Thing.

[–] CodingCarpenter@lemm.ee 5 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Sounds like a life destined for venirial disease

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

Takes “draining the swamp” to a whole new (medical) level.

~~Plain Jane?~~ @OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca

Fuck!

[–] Voyajer@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

I bet you could find someone named chaparral.

Also I'm sure there's a scrub joke to be had here.
