Doesn't urging New Yorkers to do something generally make them not do it harder out of spite?

I think this encapsulates NYC to perfection
There is also a shit load more people in NYC. Sure someone will help with your stroller, but that's after 100 people have passed you in the last 20 seconds. Source: I've never been to NYC
whoa that's a pretty good source
I've been here for 14 years and own a stroller. Someone will always help, even in less dense areas. It's common courtesy. I'd guess more people would actually induce a bystander effect. Same thing with asking for directions.
I've been the dude to help at least twice in my previous life there. Yeah, we complain a lot. Oh well.
Having lived on both coasts, I think the “kind but not nice” thing is something people who are actually neither say to feel better about themselves.
Kindness is its own communication.
Am... am I from New York? That's exactly what I would do in that situation.
New Yorkers have no tolerance for entitled people who screw over others out of arrogance or for personal gain. However when shit hits the fan, we band together in an instant.
Watch a video of any accident or tragedy in NYC. You’ll see how quick New Yorkers are to help someone in distress.
You're thinking of Philadelphia. You just have to tell New Yorkers they're tough and badass, but also smart and sophisticated, and super unique for doing .
I thought that the issue with Philly is that it didn't matter whether you asked them or used reverse psychology because they won't listen and just give you the finger for opening your fuckin mouth.
What you have to understand about Philly is that they already hate themselves more than anyone else.
Might be a good time to stop eating beef and drinking dairy milk.
because it takes a lot of water to raise cattle?
Yes, also it's really bad for climate change
Takes a lot of water and they release a not insignificant amount co2 and methane.
Actually insane amounts of water yeah. Meat is very water inefficient sadly.
Also, I don't think the cows are really into it.
I saw a comment on a thread here on Lemmy the other day that said we should be raising more cattle to help the environment and I was just dumbfounded.
Cow farts actually are a leading cause for climate change. Their shit literally is a greenhouse gas.
Not sure why you are getting downvoted for promoting a more sustainable culture and trying to reduce human impact of climate change through beef consumption
Because people don’t want to change the lifestyle to which they have become accustomed. People who like meat, like meat.
Doing a meat-free Friday is probably a good start, but everyone’s already being asked to make sacrifices in their lives to just get by and most people are already stressed out. Taking away even more of what they enjoy takes its toll. And then of course there’s the meat industry and their lobbying power.
Honestly we just need to start desalinating. These droughts are just going to continue and may even get worse. Freshwater is going to start getting very expensive and it will start getting baked into the price of things like meat. At least with fruits and veggies there’s indoor farming that can cut down on water usage.
Probably because it would not help the problem in question. It's good long term service, useless short term advice.
Yeah not just for water reasons either. Bird flu is in there, who knows when it'll start spreading that way too
that's not going to help
