Some of you here are going to be rather interested in the choices for Nacelle Toys first wave of Star Trek figurines.

The complete list

  1. Captain Edward Jellico (comes with Picard's fish tank and finger painting from Picard Day)
  2. Midshipman Peter Preston (comes with battle damage for the chest and head)
  3. Valkris (her "special feature" is "saying goodbye")
  4. Captain Rachael Garrett (comes with fatal debris)
  5. Tuvix (comes with "unique uniform" (and a lot of moral dilemma))
  6. Mirror Captain Jonathan Archer (wearing the green TOS tunic, comes with poisoned champagne)
  7. Weyoun (special feature is "sliminess", also coincidentally figure number 007)
  8. Captain Hikaru Sulu (comes with a tea cup and saucer)

Apart from the obvious WTFness of this list, it's funny how apart from the first and last figure all of these character met an untimely demise.

I would have preferred Wayoun 8, with Garak shooting him.

“That was our last Weyoun.”

FEMALE CHANGELING: I wish you hadn’t done that. That was Weyoun’s last clone.

GARAK: I was hoping you’d say that.

OMG a Tuvix. I am decidedly not a person that collects/buys figurines, but I want this. That way I can do my best Janeway, drinking coffee and casually insulting Tuvix's existence

WTFness is right. I shouldn't have had to look up who Peter Preston was. I forgot that guy even had a name.

Seeing Scotty openly crying still kind of messes me up.

It is definitely an important scene in the film, but it's more important for Scotty in terms of story and character development (as many sacrificed minor characters are in films).

I don't know, it feels like making the toy of him and not of Scotty is showing a misunderstanding of his place in the film.

They talk about this in the video. Nacelle is almost making these figures as a response to Playmates’ line which is nothing but the most well known characters. I think in the future they’ll get around to Scotty (but do it in a special way, like Scotty from Relics complete with makeshift arm sling).

I guess there are a lot of lesser-known characters that I would have gone for first:

To name some from across the classic shows: Finnegan, Vash, the female changeling, Icheb, Major Hayes.

Aside from Finnegan (that's just personal preference, you could do a multi-episode minor character like Sarek), all of those characters had more effect on Star Trek storylines than Peter Preston.

I mean look at the other characters they're going with. I wouldn't exactly put him on the level of Rachel Garrett or Tuvix or Jellico.

My favorite part of the video is that they say that the Comic Con audience gasped when Tuvix was shown.

It's almost like they are watching us and made that figurine as a gotcha for something that hasn't been memed on.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Well now I'm going to take that as a challenge.

Wayoun, Tuvix, and Jellico?! Who made this call and what's their @startrek.website user handle?
