That... Ideally, would be tantamount to theft, in any functioning body of law.

Edit; or destruction of private property?

Take two bought the game, no?

Also: the devs went to work at valve it's not like they can't physically talk to the single most powerful person capable of resolving this if I'm wrong on point #1

Well, that's kind of something you sign up for when you get a publisher. It's fucked up, like what record labels do, but not surprising.

It’s not that Take Two bought the game, they bought the publisher of the game. The devs wanted to submit an update, which they normally would do by sending it to their publisher. But now their publisher no longer exists, so they send they want to send their update to Take Two, but apparently some red tape is in the way.

Why does gaming even need publishers? Unlike books or movies the number of sales outlets seems rather small, usually in the single digits.

Randy bought it, it's his property now. I understand hopoo needed money, but they should have made some provisions for extreme idiots attempting enshittification or inept fixes. Their legacy is getting bumfucked a bit, RoR2 is a travesty now.

They did not make sell the game. Their publisher has been shuttered, the game is still theirs, it's just that people who used to deal with publishing aren't there anymore.

At least read the article before making statements like that.

I’m not sure how much they care now that they are working at Valve.

Imagine if Microsoft could have reached into your Banjo Katwoee cartridge and replaced it with Nuts and Bolts
