Can you imagine being a 16 year old lad playing for the Arsenal senior team with the likes of Saka, Rice, Jorginho, Jesus, Sterling? Porter must be pinching himself every minute right now.

[–] Aesecakes@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I just found out we might have to play Porter, the 16yo, 4th choice ’keeper.

[–] OlPatchy2Eyes@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 month ago

If he dies, he dies

[–] bootinelli@lemmyis.fun 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Saka and Rice start. Why?

Nelli on the bench. Why?

[–] MHPengwingz@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Saka only played 45, i expect another 45 only

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Ain't really got midfielders enough to not play Rice.

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

First goal for Sterling. He's played well

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Finally an easy game in this cup, jeez.

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

It's good to finally see the youngsters play. I think a lot of it was forced due to injuries and the congested fixture list, but I'll take it

[–] AFC1886VCC@reddthat.com 3 points 1 month ago

Outstanding from Lewis-Skelly, great goal for Nwaneri. Credit to Sterling too

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I'm an idiot. I was sitting here thinking about why Trossard may not have been named in the squad...

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Word is Raya's out from injury. One of the kids, then; plus Nwaneri and MLS are both gonna start as well as Sterling and Jesus from rumours.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think he's not necessarily injured, we're just taking precautions since we're going to play half our matches with 10 men.

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Light injury's still an injury. White was injured last match.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

True, but when I think injury I think of being out for more than a game week, whereas all sources seem to indicate that Raya should be fine for Leicester.

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Porter apparently broke Fabregas's record for youngest starter lol

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I've seen enough, Nwaneri should start against Leicester.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

1000%. At the very least he's earned the benefit of the doubt. We convinced him to stay because there would be first team minutes up for grabs - we need to take this opportunity now that Ø is injured. Arteta will be much more reluctant to do so in the spring.

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Idk if it'll show up on highlights but he tried to do a bit of a bicycle in a crowd, didn't really work XD

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Keep forgetting Rice has 41, I keep constantly being like "who's this academy player playing so good-oh wait nvm that's rice"

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

big numbers for first team players is a sin

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Not gonna be watching closely, I have homework that needs doing :p This semester has been rough.

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

That's a lovely little backheel pass from Bolton, lol. Bad shot though.

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Number NINETY TWO. Jeez.

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago
[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Nichols looks a bit too lean for the defence. He's still a kid, tbf.

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Nwaneri!! :)

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

eyyyy love to see kids score goals

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Bolton did well there. Hit on the counter. Young keeper looked a little eager and went early

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Think if he commits to coming out, he can get the tackle in? Right before the scorer rounds him, he has a very heavy touch - obviously hindsight is 20/20 but it's a learning opportunity for Porter, who might end up being our Moose Cup keeper.

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Yeah, I think he did the right thing coming out, I just think he goes down to block the shot too quickly perhaps, which allows Collins (I think it was) to touch it past him and slot it in the net.

Maybe Collins played it well and feigned a little, I haven't watched a replay, which tricks Porter into committing early.

But, I played football when I was 4-6 years old, so I was never coached properly, mind you, lol. That's just how it looked live.

I have nothing against him for it. He's done more at 16 than I have at 31, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

The striker definitely has the experience to fake him out, credit where credit is due. And yeah, I think we can cut a 16 year old some slack playing against a League One side full of grown men lol

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ooo Nelli on! Also Maldini

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I thought that was a nickname from your comment before I realised that no, Kacurri's first name is actually Maldini lmfao

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I don't know who he is, tbh. I was just reading his jersey xD

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Yeah, I think you're right

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Havertz with the finish. Once again Sterling involved

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I don't want to be too harsh on Porter, but geez!

I'd hate to be in his shoes. He's probably nervy as hell. Especially after conceding the goal

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Even Hein's done stuff like that, I don't really mind too much. Young ones.

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Yeah, precisely. What keeper/person doesn't make a mistake. It also may only be Bolton in the LC, but he's barely 16 and starting. It's a big moment for him.

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Oo, Kabia too.

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Sterling did well to get the ball in too

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

MLS injured? :/

[–] Oneser@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

That's an academy goal to concede.

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

not yet, only 2 so far lol

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I know, that's what I meant. He's on the verge of one, but doesn't have it yet

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

That goal just looked too easy
