/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ **8. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

McCoy: general disapproval of both what Kirk's doing and how Spock said "no"

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 23 points 2 months ago (1 children)

"Damn it Spock, stop telling him not to do the thing! Damn it, Jim, stop doing the thing!"

I preferred the previous doctor - Dr. Phil Boyce .... here just have a drink of some hard liquor to solve your problem.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

To be fair, Bones felt that way a lot of times too. As did Scotty.

There was a lot of drinking going on...

It was surprising that they also didn't start smoking too .. especially since it was the 60s and smoking was still a normal part of the culture back then.

Needs more open racism against Vulcans. Maybe a crack about his ears, or mention "logic" in a really condescending tone.

The relationship between doctor McCoy and Spock is one of the best parts about TOS

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It is. It's also pretty racist for a member of an organization that claims it left racism and other forms of prejudice behind.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think it creates a interesting plot dynamic. I'm sure it was thought out ahead of time.

It is was better than the cheap cereal box style writing of modern trek

Mccoy is that dude who's a pretty big bigot but has one black dude he's really good friends with who just rolls his eyes when he says the n word

It would only be logical that after all this time Spock is actually using reverse psychology on Kirk.

[–] bizarroland@fedia.io 11 points 2 months ago

I like this theory. Makes me think that Spock has taken in all of the variables and computed that the most likely positive outcome for the current mission is for Kirk, who has a rebellious streak, to know that somebody disapproves of his actions, therefore causing him to act in his characteristic manner which increases their likelihood of success.

Afterwards:

Kirk - "Back me up while I do the thing, Spock."

Spock - "... fine."

Scotty: Did he do the bloody thing again? Aye, it'll take me two hours to fix the thing, but I'll get it done in 30 minutes.

Sulu: (thinks) I hope I get to do the thing one day...

Chekov: They do the thing much better in Moscow.

Uhura: Speaking of things, I have this thing in my ear...

This needs to be spinning at 300 rpm to make it true

Damn it, I'm a doctor not a magician

Is anyone else really digging this art style?
