Ah yes the strategy of trying to court jewish Americans by *checks notes* being blatantly antisemitic. There's no real reason to mention he's Jewish here other than to be antisemitic and imply he's a "bad jew"

At this point there is no chance of "court(ing)" enough voters to win. MAYBE when all anyone knew of Biden was a guy who chugged a bottle of nyquil before a debate for some reason but even america isn't stupid enough to legitimately vote in trump anymore.
If trump wins it will be because of decades of gerrymandering and outright election theft through court cases, bad faith electors, and violence.
And shit like this? This is the threat. Explain that anyone who breaks ranks is going to be just as much of a target as pence was.
Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if we have a "Jan 6 was a day of patriotism" ad before this 70-something days is up.
but even america isn't stupid enough to legitimately vote in trump anymore.
I'm afraid you're vastly underestimating the stupidity of Americans. I just hope enough people vote.
They're stupid enough when it comes to not voting at all. If everyone showed up and voted for who they prefer, no Republican would ever be president again (unless they pivot away from being the Fascist Party).
And yet, "did not vote" would have won something like 80% of the last 100 years of elections.
One thing there that shouldn't be discounted is how hard it was for folks working multiple jobs, who have to take care of their kids, etc to be able to get to a voting booth.
Long lines, inaccessible mail in voting, and so on have long been issues especially for the lower income bracket where they aren't getting the option to work from home that day, or live in an area where there are so many booths that the line takes 10 minutes to get through.
So I wouldn't say its all "stupid" people who don't vote. These were intentional decisions made by others trying to limit access to voting, and in the past, it worked. The moment mail in voting became ubiquitous, there was a massive increase in voters.
Pushing for keeping options open for everyone to vote, including making it a federal holiday, consistently available mail in voting, ensuring access to sufficient booths, etc, is of utmost importance.
It's a shame that in a supposed "free country" that all voting is not done like it's done here in Colorado.
My parents seem like normal somewhat rational people. They are still planning to vote for Trump. Please stop with this "we've already won" shit. It can only cost us the win. Go vote. It's far from guaranteed. It honestly looks to be pretty close to an even race right now.
Please stop with this “we’ve already won” shit.
That's not at all the right takeaway from his comment. The right takeaway from his comment is that Trump has every intention of winning by massively cheating, and his supporters are already inserting themselves into positions within the election system to do just that.
- Your parents are not "somewhat rational people" if they are voting for a hateful bigot and rapist who is openly compromised by foreign powers and openly talking about how people only have to vote "one more time"
- Please read posts before responding to them
- We have popular republicans speaking at the DNC and getting cheered. There was a LOT of stupidity about Biden ("He is anti-Palestine so we should let trump win instead!") but he is gone and there is no time to make a proper attack against Kamala. trump is not going to sway additional voters and is already losing "moderates" who are desperate for anything other than a rapist lunatic who would love Gilead if he knew how to read.
That is why the focus is on strong arming his party and elected officials to remind them that he led a literal fucking lynch mob against the last republican who crossed him by... not shitting on the constitution on Jan 6.
if trump wins it is not going to be by a popular vote (it was never going to be that). It is not even going to be by barely squeaking by on the electoral college. It is going to be by getting close and then using outright theft and violence to get the rest of the way.
Which is why, even if someone is too stupid to understand that there are down ballot candidates who matter just as much (arguably moreso), they still need to vote. Because we need a landslide so that there are no elected (or military...) officials who decide that they want to be on "the winning team" and defy the will of the people. And that is who trump is campaigning to at this point.
Almost half the country will vote for the orange ape. Don't other this guy's parents. If everyone voted the country wouldn't be in this situation anyway. Take 40% out of the voting pool (not even counting voter suppression) and the ill-informed will vote alongside the hyper-informed.
His parents are actively supporting a bigoted rapist who wants to destroy the country and become king.
They deserve some other-ing.
That's a rational view, but not born out by past experience. Sadly, there are apparently a huge number of horrible Americans who still think Trump is exactly right.
Hillary got flak for calling Trump supporters a "basket of deplorables," but in hindsight that was a kind way of saying it.
All the american zionist apartheid colonists will still support him, though, because he also hates the other people more.
Most American zionists aren't Jewish to begin with. They're evangelical Christians who want to ship all the Jews back to the "Holy Land" to kick-start "Armageddon" so they themselves can get "Raptured." They don't give a shit about Jews; they just want them gone.
They have more than enough privilege to support Trump's hate without any risk to themselves -- actually, even that is an understatement: they're at the very core of Trump's base.
Nah there's a ton of "Israeli-Americans" who now live on stolen land:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zionism_as_settler_colonialism
The entire population of Israel is under 10 million people. Even if every single one of them were Israeli-American (i.e. eligible to vote in US elections), they would still be dwarfed by the more than the 80 million evangelical Christians in the US who mostly support Israel (not Jews, just Israel) for the reason I described.
Yes. Hatred is not logical.
Why are US ‘pro-Israel’ groups boosting a far-right, anti-Muslim UK extremist?
And, remember, there were German Jews who supported Hitler: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_of_German_National_Jews
Wait! He can't be antisemitic, his son in law is Jewish! /s
And he has on multiple occasions told Jews they have to have their head checked if they vote Democrat, instead of the group with tiki torches chanting about how 'Jews will not replace us". He is also currently on a KKK campaign stop tour which makes this land even better.
trump really wanted Kamala to pick this guy as VP, it's why it's not the first time he's brought Shapiro up and why he even knows his name.
Shapiro would have given him so much material to work with. He would have called him a classic coastal elite, uppity lawyer, dyed-in-the-wool career politician. He would have called him an Obama impersonator.
Walz is giving him no angles of attack, it's really an inspired pick.
Walz is giving him no angles of attack, it’s really an inspired pick.
But it's the type of politicians the Dem party should always be running...
Kamala is doing a lot better than Biden, but someone like Walz would be doing the Super Bowl Shuffle all the way to the White House without breaking a sweat.
He's the type of candidate our voters want, and how he went from completely unknown to ridiculously popular in like a month just shows that the "name recognition" stuff was always bullshit.
Walz isnt unique. He's great, but there's lots of politicians out there like him. It's just almost impossible for them to get to the national stage when the DNC, media, billionaires, and lobbists like AIPAC want neoliberals.
They'll never come out and say it openly, but I sense a strong theme in the Harris campaign of "we're also running to give the republican party the impetus to kick Trump and his cronies to the political nothingness that they deserve to be in"
With so many people saying "I'm a republican but I'm voting for Harris", it's very clear that this election is just as much about Republican's reclaiming their "grand ole' party" from the cult of personality that has taken it over. It's a shame that they have to literally vote with their opponent in order to make that happen. But the thought process seems to be "Let's get dominated, spend the next four years purging ourselves of Trump and his idiotic sycophants, and then come back in the next election and fight with dignity again."
I don't disagree with your overall point, but let's not pretend that the Republicans campaigned with dignity before Trump. Next time they'll pick someone just as bad for America as Trump but he will be younger and controllable.
Trump wholely controls the RNC, they're not working against him.
Republican voters are willing to vote for Harris when they wouldn't vote Biden, because Biden was just honestly a bad candidate. Now that the candidate is better, more people are willing to cross party lines and vote D.
It would have happened in 2016 and 2020 too if we ran better candidates.
Hell, it happened 2008 and 2012 when Obama ran. Not only did people vote for him. He flipped a lot of state governments in "red states" blue.
Because he changed people's minds about what the democratic party was.
Exactly. No one voted for Kamala. People didn’t vote for Biden, they voted against Trump. Hilary won the primary because Warren split the progressive vote and wouldn’t drop out.
Dems haven’t put forward a truly clean and charismatic leader since Obama.
Warren ran in 2020. Hillary won in 2016 because of superdelegate bullshit creating an air of inevitable victory before a single vote had been cast and the DNC actively working to suppress the Sanders campaign through smear tactics and a severely limited debate schedule.
when the DNC, media, billionaires, and lobbists like AIPAC want neoliberals.
...to add insult to injury, they often play the oppression olympics game at the same time, as if 1) that kind of stupid pandering even matters to most voters, and 2) they think no one will notice their shell game. As if people cannot tell the difference between a Condaleeza Rice and a Bernie Sanders, other than gender and race?
Walz is giving him no angles of attack, it’s really an inspired pick.
Republicans don't have a counter for wholesome.
No, see Walz has some huge weaknesses that Trump and Vance can expose! He, errr... [checks notes] visited China and got addicted to a video games console for a while?
That video console thing really is terrible!
Is he available for a team match, btw?
there's no way this guy didn't have a stroke
But he specifically said he didn't have a series of mini strokes, when nobody had asked. Claimed he was getting ahead of a rumor he said everybody was spreading when nobody had ever heard it.
I think that clears it up.
He's going to be a handful for his handlers when the big one hits him and his face drops on one side and he is only able to move about in a wheelchair
Picking a fight with another governor that has higher approval than he has in a state he must win? Please proceed, Don.
What do they mean "goes off the rails"? The man hasn't even seen a rail in over a decade, let alone been on one.
He's seen plenty of rails, just not the political kind. He's a product of the 80's after all.
He was already in mid-life in the 80s. I hardly consider that being a product of it. Motherfucker is old.
I swear to GOD he's trying to get out of getting elected but remain visibly hurt enough to get funding. He's struck out and flipped off every demographic save for white Christian males. And he's still pulling 49% at betting sites.
The fact that he still has Christian supporters is crazy to me from the beginning. He’s the definition of sin from their perspective and back in 2015 I was sure they would see that and feel uncomfortable about his lifestyle but NOPE!
We’re talking about people who have made their entire life’s identity around explicitly rejecting reality and their own observations.
If he does not get elected, he will see jailtime. He is just desperate and his run of dumb luck seems to be stalled at the moment.
His strategy only works if people act in their short term self interest and don’t stand up to him.
Enough people, (the Business Execs, the National Security Hawks, and the Petit Bourgeoisie) finally understand that, if he gets elected, this will their very last chance to vote.
They are standing up to him. They are providing real support.
The fact that she skipped the primaries means Harris avoided the normal Democratic Circular Firing Squad. She has a real chance.
BTW, I just spent the week in South Georgia. Georgia is in play. I was in a bar listening to old white dudes argue hammer and tong about Trump. I have been going down there regularly for 10 years. That never happened before. In the last year and a half, the loud Pro-Trump people started keeping their mouths shut. Now, they do not give any outward signs of support.
Trump lost GA last time.
Just have to keep reminding self that his days on the media menu are shortening
Man, his frontal shots are insane. There was some cringe screenshot of a tiktok from his official channel on Lemmy and it was the first time I've seen him looking just like that, and then more and more in the last week or so. It's amazing how this angle changes him. Like a masterfully carved statue or a theater mask akin to Hannya, employing a visual illusion to change the perceived emotion by tilting it. Central Don isn't an orange hitler previous photos shown to scare dems into voting, now he's a balding baby in distress, and I want to see more of that as article covers.
You have to wonder why he's doing that, since he's so image focused. My guess: he's freaked out enough by the prospect of losing that he's just trying anything to see what sticks
Or that the policy in the media changed so all unlucky angles that were previously known as undesirable to every photographer are now allowed and even encouraged. It's free for all to bash the cheeto. Not in a side shot, catching his ear, but right in his eyes.
Surely this will work.
what rails?
