He did little to quell reports that he is melting down over Harris’s poll numbers.

Amidst reports that he has become ungluedby having to compete with Kamala Harris for the presidency, Donald Trump held a press conference at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday. And if the goal was to reassure people that (1) he is not at all freaked out by the vice president’s rising poll numbers and (2) he is the best candidate for the White House, he was not exactly successful!

Trump repeatedly insulted Harris’s intelligence, calling her “barely competent,” saying that she “can't do a news conference” because “she’s not smart enough,” and claiming that she’s “not as smart” as Joe Biden. (As a reminder, Trump thinks there were airports during the Revolutionary War and that it’s safe to inject bleach into the body; he’s also been described as an idiot by numerous people who worked for him.)

Obviously.

All the major networks covered this live. None of them covered the Harris rally that happened right after. Some did fact checking afterward. That’s after most people stop watching.

The reporters often asked useless softball questions, like asking him to comment about his upcoming interview with Musk.

When there was a serious question, he simply didn’t answer. There was one about abortion and he said he would answer later. There was one about whether an an abortion drug should be banned. He gave a rambling response that seemed to be about something else.

Compare this to a typical Biden press conference where the reporters are rude and yell out questions and push back and tell Biden that he isn’t answering the question.

The press is afraid of Trump and complicit with his criminal behavior and complicit in the ignorance of the voters.

Well yeah, it generates engagement which they can then show their advertisers.

[–] rayyy@lemmy.world 29 points 3 months ago

Who we talking about? Oh yeah, some orange felon/rapist pervert who lies and shits his pants.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I don’t think he’s that smart.

[–] Pandantic@midwest.social 3 points 3 months ago

Maybe, but he is that narcissistic.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 months ago

His handlers are

[–] QuentinCallaghan@sopuli.xyz 70 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Out of curiosity I decided to watch that press conference. Trump was constantly talking with no proper pacing or rhythm and lots of nonsensical statements – and the "usual Trump stuff". I fell asleep while watching the conference, which tells enough.

I’m sorry. Do you need a hug? I would. And we have now learned a very valuable lesson. Do not subject yourself to this ever again. Go have a cookie. You’ll feel better.

they experienced it so we didn't have to 🙌

their sacrifice shall not be forgotten.

[–] moshankey@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They shall bear their marks with honor.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 20 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Glory to them. And their Hooouuuussse!

[–] Daze@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 months ago

stupid sexy gowron.

[–] dogslayeggs@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Their names shall be sung in Valhalla!

[–] Miphera@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

I watched it with a friend, that made it at least somewhat bearable (while talking over it at parts and stopping after around 75% of it)

[–] snooggums@midwest.social 13 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

So it was just another regular Trump press conference?

[–] Magister@lemmy.world 55 points 3 months ago

The more Trump spews lies, disparages Harris’s intelligence, insults Jews, and rambles about “insane asylums” in unhinged press conference, the more republicans get erect and cry in front of their messiah.

It's a cult.

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 40 points 3 months ago

And all the US Media outlets gave him pretty much a free pass.

[–] DarkDecay@lemmy.world 26 points 3 months ago

Interestingly tRumps words are heard by my brain as the complete opposite of what he claims. Every time he opens his puckered geriatric mouth about kamala it just makes me wanna vote for her even more. Harris 2024

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 25 points 3 months ago

He has gotten more unhinged in the last three weeks.

[–] papertowels@lemmy.one 25 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Y'all absolutely need to watch the linked fox news segment where the anchor tries to claim she knows Minnesota well, especially Milwaukee, and she sees that it has changed.

Meanwhile, Milwaukee is in Wisconsin.

[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Oh that's good. Very very good lol. I wonder where she's from. Probably somewhere stupid. Like Louisiana.

[–] Phegan@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

They are all from New York and pretend to be from the heartland.

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Fuck you Louisiana is the shit. Culture, food, parties.

[–] bappity@lemmy.world 24 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I thought he was gonna announce he'd drop out but this is so much better

[–] OlinOfTheHillPeople@lemmy.world 13 points 3 months ago

Winning the election is still his only way of staying out of prison. He's not dropping out.

[–] palordrolap@kbin.run 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

There's the idea that he believes he's entitled to a second term. And there's so much he wants to do and it must be done as soon as possible. If any of that is even vaguely true, he won't drop out.

(The fact he's not getting any younger might be in there somewhere, but he probably doesn't think about that at all if he can help it.)

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago

He needs to become president again to stay out of prison.

[–] snooggums@midwest.social 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Dropping out would have been better.

[–] bappity@lemmy.world 14 points 3 months ago (1 children)

imo not really cos he would've endorsed someone with a bit more brain capacity than him and not kept sabotaging himself

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

I keep seeing conservatives say "I just wish he'd keep his mouth shut". If the hardcore ones are saying that, imagine what the average person is saying. You're right, he's absolutely sabotaging himself.

[–] slickgoat@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

When has he ever had a hinged press conference?

[–] kamenoko@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Does Donald Trump think Mexico is in South America?

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

"Well it's south of America, isn't it?" - MAGA chuds, probably

[–] troglodytis@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Evidence would suggest yes
