July 1, 2023 was the (known in advance) effective date of the reddit API change that killed 3rd party apps. Not really too surprising a bunch of apps for Lemmy started development leading up to that change in order to try to establish a userbase among the refugees. I was one of those refugees.

Yep, the Reddit migration.

It was cool to be here before hand and watch it come in.

Thanks for being welcoming. I was part of that migration.

No worries! I may not remember but did we have an interaction early on?

I think they meant being welcomed by lemmy as a whole.

At least that's the feeling i had, i also migrated during the API dilemma. Lemmings were really interacting with the new folks and explaining a lot.

Yeah, the existing admins, mods, and users were generally quite welcoming towards new users, even as the platform grew by an order of magnitude in just a few days.

Cool. I was just being cautious as there was a chance I’d spoken to them directly and forgotten their handle. Didn’t want to be rude and forget.

I too came here from the Reddit migration - when Apollo died, so did Reddit for me for the most part. It was amazing the number of Lemmy apps that popped up in those days, and how many of them have been eventually abandoned. I've settled on Voyager for my iPhone browsing and Alexandrite for my laptop browsing, and I've been really happy on Lemmy.
