It's the same thing that Blender does. It's not greedy at all. If you want something to point at, point at the C# version and how they've gotten funded by Microsoft to put in the C# version.
In 2017, with Miguel de Icaza's support, Godot received a $24,000 donation from Microsoft to implement C# as a scripting language in Godot.
It's only 24,000 as well.

Literally moving from Patreon to their own platform since Patreon isn't the best platform for non-profits...
Patreon removed goal tracking. Like why the hell, one of the main features we appreciate.
It's open source, it'd get forked immediately if the community had a problem.
