If voting didn't work, they wouldn't be trying so hard to stop you from doing it.

This country has the potential to be everything we were told it is already and more, but it will take hard, persistent, and undeterred work keeping republicans out and reshaping the democratic party to be the vehicle for the change this land made for you and me needs.

Ding ding ding. The Republican playbook relies so heavily on disenfranchising voters for a reason.

I'm distressed by how easily they can stop large numbers of people from voting (or submitting votes in a meaningful way).

Corollary:

If voting third-party didn't work, they wouldn't be trying so hard to stop you from voting third-party.

I vote by mail because it means I can rub my balls on my ballot to fully express my contempt for this ludicrous system

[–] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The poll workers are volunteers who are saving your lazy ass from authoritarians. Why would you do that to them?

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Yeah, I should probably be rubbing my balls on the Constitution

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You really want all that SCROTUS leftovers on there?

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Better my SCROTUS than the current SCOTUS

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Right, but they already did it, and you'd be doing it after them.

I wouldn't do that or one of Nicholas Cage's 90 alter egos, who all somehow are also the same person, will locate your ass and leave it trapped, shot, beaten, burned, kidnapped, ran over, uppercut, framed, mugged, and ultimately left with a terrible haircut, but like 1 out of 10 times.

Sir we're hitting based levels that shouldn't even be possible

[–] blazera@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Problem is exclusively voting for people who benefit from reinforcing the current corrupt system. Who votin for the candidate pushing for ranked choice voting?

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago

I am. My state will go blue either way so I might as well help their numbers for ballot access later. There are also congressional Democrats who support RCV, and they've won my vote.

[–] Bye@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (3 children)

How fucking hard is it to vote, you walk to your mailbox, fill it out, and put it back in. It’s not rocket science

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There seem to be a lot of people - who are definitely not russian-inspired trolls - who are very clear that they shall not sully themselves to participate in American democracy as the entirety of their specific demands have not been accomplished by the party currently occupying the white house.

[–] Bye@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Those people are for sure part of a bot farm that wants to see more dead Ukrainian farmers.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

They have the exact same aims and language as russian bot farms, yes. But- maybe it’s a coincidence.

Your privilege is showing

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

Vote the democrats in so you can live to continue the fight and pull them further left tomorrow in the remnants of a somewhat functioning democracy.

Or vote republican and say weakly, "but I'm one of the good ones?" with tears in your eyes as they kick in your front door and string you up on the wall.

Heh, I made that top image (of this meme template), so sorry about the knuckles and bad hand... Just used Photoshop and a mouse. Don't know who drew the bottom image, someone with more skill that's for sure! I think I still have the Photoshop file of my bit somewhere.

[–] samara@lemmy.dbzer0.com -2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Vote your conscience. There will always only be two parties if you only every vote for one of two parties.

[–] rbesfe@lemmy.ca 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The 2 party system is kept alive by the electoral college that incentivizes 2 party voting. If there was actual proportional representation, I would agree.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works -2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Sorry to be pedantic, but that's more due to First Past The Post voting than the Electoral College. The electoral college is why I will vote third party and it will make no difference in the outcome of this election.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You throw your vote away because your vote will be thrown away?

Well. Okay. That seems like a very, very, very long-term strategy.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That implies it's possible to be thrown away twice. I'm maximizing the benefit of my vote. My state will go blue.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

You should hope, yes.
