MODERATORS

These threads used to be really useful back on Reddit.

I'm currently finishing off full app translations for the next release along with lots of the usual bug fixes.

What should I prioritise next?

Cheers, Lj

A few features I would love to see:

  1. A way to view groups of multiple communities in a single feed. Like a multicommunity. A workaround right now is to have multiple accounts, which is less than ideal.

  2. A way to view content from multiple accounts in a single feed. Like a universal feed.

  3. An easier way to have the same settings apply to multiple accounts.

  4. A way to block instances or communities.

Regarding #3: a way to copy/synchronize subscriptions between accounts.

I use a main account and a backup account on another instance in case the main instance is down, so I want those to have the same subscriptions. Manually synching them would be fine (maybe with options like copy everything, mirror the subscriptions, make sure B does not contain the same as A, etc.).

When browsing "local" or "all", it would be nice to have some kind of indicator next to the community name to let you know if you've already subscribed or not. I browse "all" sometimes looking for new communities to sub to and I click through to find out I'm already subbed often.

I think something as simple as being able to set a different color for subbed communities would work well and be enough to stand out at a glance.

I second this. Especially useful as you could be following an exact or similarly named community and not notice it's on a different instance.

fairly minor thing, but can you detect from sync whether a home instance allows downvotes? mine does not, but sync still displays the unusable downvote button on everything

Allow users to switch accounts when making posts or comments instead of having to go back to the home screen

Is it not possible to add upvotes history?

[โ€“] theragu40@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I am considering creating multiple accounts to upvote this even more. Ok just kidding, but seriously if this is at all technically feasible it is by far my most missed feature. I often used my upvote history as a sort of very loose bookmarking system. I realize I can save posts, but I usually reserved that for extra special posts that I really needed to save.

The way Lemmy is set up I've actually struggled to find a post I upvoted just a couple hours prior. It can be very frustrating.

Search function. I get this. I cannot search remote instance toast whenever I try to search

[โ€“] ljdawson@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Good spot. Fixed for the next release.

You can turn off the "show bots" option in Lemmy. I suppose you might have to go to the webpage instead of using Sync, but it's definitely an option.

Or you can block them like any user you find annoying.

Until the Lemmy devs add this you can filter locally

[โ€“] eee@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

+1 to instance wide blocking, it's a feature that is sorely needed.

That said, it's on the lemmy devs' road map so idk if you'll want to wait for that... But I'm not sure when they'll get round to building that feature.

It's that different to filtering an instance?

Hiding blocked communities from the 'Everything' feed please

[โ€“] ljdawson@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[โ€“] OscarRobin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've been 'blocking' irrelevant communities in the Everything feed hoping it would do something. Was not aware that there was 'filtering' which may actually do what I want. Seems to me that any blocked communities should still never be visible anywhere though?

[โ€“] ljdawson@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Adding to blocked will hide them from the everything feed.

Can you confirm they're blocked here:

Settings shortcut: Lemmy settings > Blocked communities

[โ€“] youngalfred@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

An option to disable the toast 'you are hiding everything on page 6' and just continue on anyway, without needing to press retry.

[โ€“] lustrum@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 year ago

Would like an "overview" when going on mine or someone else's profile so posts and comments are mixed. Saves me clicking through each and giving better context.

Having webp images/animated images show up in the post feed without having to click on the image

[โ€“] Alcatorda@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I would love a Scroll to top button when browsing an instance, or to have an option to Subscribe without scrolling all the way to the top. I tend to visit a new instance, check out a couple pages, and then subscribe. But by then the Subscribe button is really far away.

Something that only makes sense on lemmy and not Reddit, but I think it would be cool to explore a combined account view. With defederation I've now ended up with multiple accounts that can all see different things. Could be nice to combine my beehaw and lemmy.world subscriptions view together.

Can we have notifications about replies/messages at least when opening the app up? (It doesn't have to poll all the time for them, but hourly polling or something can be an option).

Have a global setting for not sharing the post title by default when I want to directly share an image from the app. It's come unstuck and turned back on for me a couple times.

I also wanted to say the only reason I'm using lemmy at all is because of your app; I'm a big fan. As soon as your app turned off for Reddit, I quit using Reddit. I'm glad that you turned to this community, and I'll support you here too :)

Side note: I'm a software developer, so if you ever want an enhancement in an open-source library, maybe reach out and I can take a crack at it. I'm mostly familiar with Python and C# but I'm always willing to learn new things!

[โ€“] Marcbmann@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I don't get notifications when a message is in my inbox, but I have notifications enabled.

Filtering "All" by language. I know it's a GIGO situation, but I think I'd take the win.

[โ€“] Zeragamba@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago

I'd like the option to exclude a community from an instance filter. There's a community I'm interested in in an instance that is 90% garbage.

If a subscribed community could bypass the filters, that'd be fantastic

[โ€“] jhulten@infosec.pub 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Does the API let you explore an instance?

[โ€“] ljdawson@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You can already do this on the live version.

How about being able to move the up/down vote buttons to the right side for comments. And make them a little bit bigger.

Just want to make sure you're aware of this: https://discuss.online/post/1294119

I cannot connect to discuss.online as a home site from Sync at the moment, though I can browse it from other home sites. It is not an issue unique to me. The admins of the instance have come to the conclusion it is a lemmy/3p client issue rather than an instance issue, and that clients it breaks now will break more completely with future lemmy rollouts.

Change logo to indicate the lemmy connection..This is not at all a serious request, just a personal request fuelled by OCD to get everything as connected as possible.

[โ€“] Mossheart@lemmy.ca 5 points 10 months ago

Fixing the bug where instances can't be loaded please!
