Steve Bannon, a longtime ally of Donald Trump, vowed investigations and prosecutions of those who have probed the former president and his political allies, declaring at a conservative gathering Saturday that Inauguration Day in 2025 will be “accountability day.”

Pointing to Trump’s recent conviction in New York, Bannon told a crowd at Turning Point Action’s “The People’s Convention” in Detroit, hours before Trump was scheduled to speak, that the former president’s allies are going to “get every single receipt.”

“You are going to be investigated, prosecuted and incarcerated,” he said. “This has nothing to do with retribution. It has nothing to do with revenge. Because retribution and revenge might be another order of magnitude. This has to do with justice.”

Bannon was referring to recent comments by Trump vowing to be his supporters’ “retribution” and saying that “sometimes revenge can be justified.”

Abstaining isn’t voting for Trump.

It’s refusing to stand in his way.

Republicans are counting on your indifference.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing"

[–] assassin_aragorn@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago

And it doesn't matter what reason they have for doing nothing. At the end of the day, they still do nothing

I am 110% in favor of breaking the two party stranglehold. It's long overdue. It needs to end yesterday.

But hot fuck, this is LITERALLY THE WORST POSSIBLE TIME to vote third party. I read here and on Reddit that people are promising to vote third party because Biden hasn't personally solved the middle east conflict or whatever, but doing that in the presidential election amounts to screaming "fuck yeah I love Trump and everything he stands for".

Vote Biden or vote Trump. There is no third choice. Doing literally anything else is a vote for Trump.

Another million votes for Biden in a bright blue state like California isn't going to swing the election in Arizona or Georgia.

Meanwhile, the DOJ has done dick all to defend voting rights in purple or red states over the last four years.

Dude I live in a semi-rural area of California, please vot for the local elections you motherfuckers. Every bit helps on that front.

Helpful to know who you're voting for. We got screwed in Houston when Democrats turned out in support of veteran Dem State Senator John Whitmire, and he ended up being very friendly with Republican governor Greg Abbott.

Thats one of the risks ya run with, the Republicans are running controlled opposition/plants but that isnt a thing to cause one not to vote. It shows a certain amount of weakness and even desperation.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago

I remember the BLM marches through Houston and the violent police response. Police smashing up people's cars. Police firing beanbag rounds into crowds of elderly folks and children. Police rounding hundreds of people up in Discovery Green Park and arresting them on trespassing charges.

You can call that desperate, but it worked. Four years later, the police budget is even bigger and there's an ambient terror in the streets as massive tank-like vans periodically drive through the center of town.

Conservatives have this city on lockdown. I don't see anyone voting their way out of this vice grip.

Naturally, this is complete hogwash.

Isn't this dipshit supposed to be in prison right now?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 32 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

He's currently pleading that he shouldn't have to report to prison because he's too busy campaigning for Donald Trump.

The courts are taking this objection seriously.

Must be nice to have this kind of privilege

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 39 points 4 months ago

this is the guy who's supposed to be getting his affairs in order so he can report to prison on july 1st. he's just butthurt he's gonna miss the fireworks in new york ten days later.

[–] andrewta@lemmy.world 21 points 4 months ago (3 children)

Nah that won’t end badly for the country as a whole. This won’t be used when democrats get back into power. Nah.

[–] skvlp@lemm.ee 59 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Their idea is that democrats won’t get back into power.

[–] Got_Bent@lemmy.world 27 points 4 months ago (1 children)

If Trump gets in, it may very well turn into a totalitarian single party system.

You are playing checkers and the opponent already called checkmate.

How do people not see the parallels with other fascist regimes??

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

"Because this time its MY people owning the power! So that makes it okay!" - Average Conservative voter, assuming they were capable of thinking long enough to create a coherent thought.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Because they don't know what a "fascist regime" is. They're dumb.

[–] girlfreddy@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 months ago

Confirmation bias makes an incredible set of blinders.

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 13 points 4 months ago (1 children)

How is this vampire ghoul not in prison?

[–] 4am@lemm.ee 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

He has to report by July 7th IIRC

[–] havocpants@lemm.ee 5 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Just curious, does it work this way for regular people? It seems like the justice system really puts on the kid gloves for these right wing shitbags.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

Over 90% of cases end in plea bargains, with convicts reporting directly to prison from the court room. Others are remanded into police custody immediately following the verdict.

If you have money, you can delay imprisonment during the appeals process. And that process can be dragged out indefinitely with enough friendly judges.

[–] 4am@lemm.ee 4 points 4 months ago

As far as I am aware, yes you have a small amount of time to get your affairs in order and then you report.

I’m sure there are plenty of cases when they just take you away immediately and let your outside life fall apart. I think that’s an exercise for the sentencing judge and you can imagine how well it goes for poor people, PoC, etc.

[–] profdc9@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago (1 children)

What makes Bannon so sure he would be one to benefit from a second Trump presidency? He could just as well be persecuted. Trump shows no allegiance to anyone and is happy to throw his supporters under the bus when expedient.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Trump was happy enough to pardon a host of Republican donors and political allies before he left office in 2020.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_granted_executive_clemency_by_Donald_Trump#Pardons

Bannon is at least as likely to get a pardon as Roger Stone was.

[–] neidu2@feddit.nl 7 points 4 months ago

Fine. Remember to bring evidence this time.

[–] jwt@programming.dev 6 points 4 months ago

Professional shit-stirrer.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

You can tell us that from your prison cell, you felon.

[–] bradorsomething@ttrpg.network 4 points 4 months ago

Just because you’re going to jail doesn’t mean you should dress like johnny cash.

[–] m3t00@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

and someone will be quoting him from jail
