Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

The US just releases a public statement that says they value their alliance with Mexico and have no intention of interfering with their politics or their military.

the ghost of Santa Anna starts dancing

„If Texas becomes independent from the US we consider any conflict between them and Mexico an internal matter of Mexico.“

I feel like Texas is pretty well armed

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Probably not well trained. Though it'd probably be a toss up on whether they can take the Mexican army.

Imagine if we built a wall to keep out Texans

Classic line from John Lennon's hit song 😂

A guy can dream.

Texas has Austin, Dallas, and oil. All three are things we'd like to keep; the first two are mainly dragged down by the rest of the state, and the rest of the US still needs the last, for now.

You forgot Houston, the blue spot that their politicians are trying to remove the vote from. Literally. It's horrendous.

3rd/4th largest city in the country (constantly back and forth with Chicago) and Houston is always somehow forgotten 😢

[–] PyroNeurosis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If I was associated with Texas, I'd also rather be forgotten...

[–] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah sure, population of 30 million people, but let's just write them all off as forgotten. Or be a grown up and realize that Texas and the wider world are not black and white and more a variety of grey shades. There are bad people here, there are also good people here.

Doesn't your voting system do that anyway?

San Antonio is the best city in Texas. Puffy tacos, street tacos, crispy tacos, breakfast tacos, ...

[–] PlantDadManGuy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I'd vote for San Antonio as the new Capitol 🌮

remove the military bases and their gdp goes way down.

[–] havokdj@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

And prisons

[–] eezeebee@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 year ago

They would get invaded for their oil

[–] KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If Texas wants to leave, let them.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And then we can conquer them and turn them into a protectorate. We'll swap in PR or DC as the fiftieth state, so we don't need to update the flag.

Well its gonna be a cold day in hell before I recognize Missoura.

Really dont think the us would have to. There would be such noise made of it, mexico would march up here just to shut them up

[–] VulKendov@reddthat.com 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Well the US would have to "Come and take [the cannon]" first as it's in a museum in Gonzales, Texas. It was too much trouble for a dinky little cannon then, it'll be too much trouble for a dinky little cannon in this hypothetical future.

Edit: upon further research the "Come and take it" cannon was not that little one in the museum, but a larger one. However that one was melted down and turned in to a church bell

I vote this.
