Is this the judge that owns Tesla stock, or was that a different Elon case?

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 74 points 2 months ago

Different case, same judge. This guy is so ridiculously reliable as a right wing shill that plaintiffs seek him out.

Under the federal code of judges' conduct, "a judge should recuse himself if a reasonable person in possession of the relevant facts would believe that the judge has reason for bias. And there is good reason to think that this rule covers O'Connor," [Harvard Law School Professor Noah] Feldman wrote. "Because Musk is so closely identified with both X and Tesla, Tesla share prices are arguably affected by the performance of X."

Feldman also said "the fact that Musk's lawyers appear to have sought a way to appear before O'Connor strengthens the case for recusal." X's claim that Texas is an appropriate venue because it has advertisers and users located in Texas is "meager, but perhaps less absurd than those used in some other forum-shopping situations," he wrote.

A shitty Texas judge that isn't Matthew Kacsmaryk? Well I'll be damned.

This guy's whole career is despicable.
