AI program used by Twitter and named (rather insultingly) after a concept in Stranger in a Strange Land.

Stranger in a Strange Land is like the one sci-fi property Elon might actually understand, since the only real points it had to make is that women are "naturally subservient" even if they're intellectually capable, women who get raped did something to deserve it, the only honest world government is run by white Americans, and classical liberalism is correct, having been depicted as the rich Chad.

But also polyamory is cool. As long as it's mostly the guy sleeping with other women, obviously.

Grok is a verb, meaning to understand something intuitively or by empathy. It was first used in the novel Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein.

Grok has been adopted by the tech community for use when someone is very advanced at using a certain program or a command line utility, etc. When somebody gets to such an advanced level, they don't just understand the program and it's uses anymore, they grok it.

It's actually kind of annoying and sad that Elon is stealing the word to use for his LLM.
