Just to add on to the other comment, OP you should check your language settings! Make sure you've got both "undetermined" AND English selected, as well as any others you want ofc.

Is there any way to turn off every language except English and undetermined without having to make literally hundreds/thousands of clicks?

OMG you just changed my whole Lemmy experience thank you. That was totally the problem. I had to hold control and select Undetermined and Englsh
