Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

- Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.
Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.
Example:
- Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
- Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
- No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
- Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
- No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.
That's all the rules!

We go high, they go low.
Today on Facebook, a big trumpist just admitted to me that he just wants to see his political opponents suffer (even die), and sent me a gore image.
I'm in a gun club and the WhatsApp chat had, surprise surprise, a rich, fashy vet immediately saying that the attempt meant that all supporters of the Democrats were now "enemy combatants" and should be treated like enemy combatants were back when "they" were deployed. Fucking psychotic, brownshirt ass. I know this makes me sound like him, but people like him have one solution and it's measured in six foot increments of rope.
No need. There are perfectly fine criminal laws in place. If only they were executed equally, this problem would be a lot smaller in scope.
That's very true. The real solution here is implementing the rule of law instead of selective nonsense that protects right wing vigilantism.
Tell them you want exactly the same for Trump and watch them get triggered like the little snowflake they are.
Right. We all agree that encouraging violence is bad.
Right lemmy?
RIGHT LEMMY?
Self defense is still a form of violence. I'll allow it.
Karl Popper, 1945, The Open Society and Its Enemies
I hate pacifists, man. They always try to publicly shame you by making it seem like violence is never justified... stupid deontological thinking
It's only free speech when we speak. When someone says something I don't like, that's not free speech.
It's only ok to incite violence when we do it.
This hypocrisy isn't a good look. Lemmy loves to point at Trump's hypocrisy (see OP) but are blind to their own. It makes your position appear weaker because you don't actually stand for anything (e.g. free speech as it exists in the US).
I've said it before but many here are more like conservatives than they realize. They also don't really stand for anything. For example, they pretend to love small government and then bend right over with pre-lubed assholes when DeSantis legislates lab meat out of existence in their state instead of letting tHe FRee MArKeT decide.
Wasn't the guy who shot Trump a registered Republican?
Is it possible that he was incited to violence by... other Republicans?
-Donald Trump, Wilmington, N.C., Aug. 9, 2016
Since then we know Trump's suggested method of dealing with legally unchangeable judge positioning.
Yep. And confirmed conservative, if recent headlines are to be trusted.
We pretending like every thread on Lemmy wasn’t filled with “wish he had better aim” sentiment?
In most the posts I saw, the comments wishing he had been killed were downvoted.
So yeah, some people made those comments, but most people didn't agree with them
That hasn't been my experience in any thread that I've seen.
I decided to look for examples of threads and most had neutral comments and some comments agreeing with my memory events.
This archived thread was the most blatant one I found.
I don’t have time to go look right now but when I went through the threads that was very much not the case.
Let’s see how this one does

When both teams suck, all you can do is root for injuries. But no, "I wish you'd just die already" is not a call to violence.
I remember you from the other thread. You’re a fan of feigning ignorance if it helps your point.
Read this thread. The people encouraging violence are upvoted far more and those discouraging it are downvoted.
It’s not just that thread either.
To continue a theme from our previous thread - you mind if we quit playing stupid?
The top five root comments have no such thing.
Maybe your app is displaying them differently, but when I looked the 3rd highest top-level comment wanted the guy to have better aim and it had 49 net upvotes

I'm archiving so you see the same layout I saw.
