I had to take down my old post. I got a few messages since then how it is now that it's "done".

I am not completly done, in winter I will install the backwall of the kitchen about 30-35 cm high against the wall with the same material my kitchen counter is. Or I will use tiles to spice it up, but haven't decided what colors would fit or if I will just stick with the kitchen counter as background.

I know it will get dirty, especially with the coffee machine near the wall but thats a winter project for me.

So here is the endresult with the open wood ceiling.

Edit: Oh and one shelf on top is missing that will be installed in 5 weeks though, will just fix the symmetry

Looks good, really love those ceiling beams! Personal opinion, not that you asked for it: I like the white walls. I would be concerned with the countertop material that the room would become a little too dark, especially in winter.

You could put a white tile up as the backsplash on the wall. That would keep it bright but easier to clean (totally understand what you’re saying about the wall getting dirty, especially from the coffee maker, but if this is just temporary and you know you’ll be covering it soon who cares?). I think a lot of people go with what they call subway tile in the US, to the point where it may be over done, but I think it’s popular because it looks pretty decent, is fairly easy to install and usually not expensive, and is simple enough to not be distracting. Of course, you could also do a more geometric shape, perhaps two different shapes where the larger is white and the smaller gives pops of color for contrast.

I’m not the decor person, though; I generally defer to my wife on that because she usually has stronger opinions in those areas. And I’m generally not up to date on what’s currently fashionable, so don’t put a lot of stock in my opinions.
