p.s. The flag in the background in the full photo in the article indicates that this happened in Taiwan, not mainland China.

Yea that's interesting. This article also says that Taichung is a Chinese city, when it is actually a Taiwanese city.

But then, on paper Taiwan is a part of the greater China, wether Taiwan and us agree with Beijing or not (disclaimer: I disagree with Beijing on this, but sadly it is official)

That may say more about otakumantra.com's position on Taiwan than anything else.

Or maybe they see a guy with a Chinese name, and automatically say he's Chinese, which ethnically is true, but in terms of news reporting is misleading.

It is not official. It remains contentious and depends entirely on who you ask. China lays claim to Taiwan while Taiwan refutes that. Sure, Taiwan isn't officially recognized as it's own country by the UN, but that's due to pressure from China. For all intents and purposes, it is it's own country.

I live in TW, can confirm this happened in Taiwan, not in China.
