Haha, yes. I feel like Gill needs to step up his Villainess support game. When Alicia drops a hot line like how freckle-girl had actually judged Alicia by her looks to start with, Gill need to jump in with some supporting applause or shouts. What is a Villainess really, if she doesn't have a posse to act as a hype crew?

Really fun episode this week. That showdown with Liz and LIz's freckled lackey was so good. I died when Alicia literally pushed the other girl aside so that she could whisper sweet evils into Liz's ear. It's like when Alicia dons all black, she finally learned how to be a proper Villainess (the look is great as well).

And, frankly, she was right to tell off Duke. The dude is pervy as hell. You are a villainess now Alicia! Channel your inner mean-spiritedness and embrace it. 'Tis better to die a hated Villainess than to live as a half-hearted one!

I suspect that Alicia was being influenced in some way in that exchange with Duke. I mean, yeah, he was being creepy as hell, but that is pretty normal for him at this point. She seems to have acted against her will. Like you, I think that it is less likely to be Liz consciously influencing things after this episode. Either she is doing it unknowingly, or there is some game force pushing things back to the game's story line. However, if that was the case, wouldn't it have influenced Duke and the handful of others that don't seem affected by it by now?

Really fun episode with Alicia back and I am looking forward to more direct confrontations with Liz and co. going forward.

I really like her all-black look with the eye patch. It's like battle armor for the tasteful Villainess.

It’s still confusing, but at least the plot feels like it’s going somewhere.

My thoughts exactly. I don't really get Beta's involvement in all of this or what the thorn's use with regards to Bam will be. Can he make special use of it because he is an irregular? They have said before that Jahad can't be killed by a regular, perhaps this is why.

As for Novick (I had to look his name up), I think they didn't want him or Ran on their team in the beginning, but kept them alive due to Bam's insistence. So, I guess they are now confident enough that Bam is trapped irreversibly that they can dispose of the pieces they kept around to keep him happy.

I also just wanted to note that they had webtoon Daft Punk explain a bunch of rules again this episode that have had absolutely zero impact on the plot. At the end of the day it came down to just fighting, points be damned.

Yeah, I don't think I have ever seen a character just shut down like that before. Feign sleep or illness? Sure. But to just sit there staring for ages, that is a first. There really is no way for him to interpret that other than a rejection.

Another aspect of this that I just realized is that the two most timely/thorough anime news sources I use for English language articles are:

  • Anime News Network - Owned by Kadokawa
  • Crunchyroll - Owned by Sony

I can imagine a scenario in which the news groups of these two companies are consolidated. There are other English news sources out there, but it doesn't sit well with me if these two big players combine.

I did some minor bot updates yesterday and, while I was at it, I went ahead and enabled posting cover images when the post is made. In no way is this meant to displace the screenshots submitted in the comments. So, feel free to post a screenshot and tag rikka like normal, I will just edit it in like I normally do.

Between all the BDs they would have control over through this, they already also own Crunchyroll. That would be a huge market share.

Looks like there are 145 chapters available in both English and Japanese. Checking my Mangadex library, looks like I had stopped reading right around chapter 100. Not sure if we will get to new-to-me material this season or not.

Sony also owns Crunchyroll for digital distribution.

Source is from episode 10.

I understand that this show might not be everybody's cup of tea. It constantly was featuring a main character that is very clearly aimed at shota lovers after all. However, I wanted to highlight this show for a different reason; the animation.

This show was made by a very new studio, Tsumugi Akita Anime Lab. As a new studio, they were able to experiment with different ways to produce a series instead of having already established production lines in place. The key thing they do differently is they make heavy use of Unreal Engine throughout the process. This also streamlined things so that they could keep the same creative team working on every episode together rather than separate teams working on different episodes in parallel.

The end product came out looking really good, better than I would have expected from a very young studio like this. The main selling point of the manga is the phenomenal art, so translating that into anime was a risky endeavor for a young studio, but it ended up working out great.

Premieres July 2025. The new PV is here. Check out the ANN article for additional information. Synopsis from the article:

The manga centers on university students Magi and Yaeko, who one day witness a Kōjien dictionary falling on the head of a man and hurting him. However, despite bleeding from his head, the man expresses that he does not want them to call an ambulance or the police for him, which seems suspicious. In addition, after this encounter, both Magi and Yaeko start seeing strange things.
