I can access c/world on lemmy.world without problem:

lemmy.dbzer0.com/c/world@lemmy.world

But I cannot access c/whatstheword:

lemmy.dbzer0.com/c/whatstheword@lemmy.world

It seems unlikely that this specific and innocent community is blocked on either instance.

What's going on here?

And now I suddenly can. Was something tweaked by the admins?

I also couldn't search for the said community. Now that is also resolved. Very very odd.

EDIT: interestingly, from the instance lemdro.id the said community is also inaccessible

if you're the first person from your instance to interact with a remote community, it takes a moment for it to sync.

also keep in mind that lemmy.world is too fucking big, so they're very slow to talk to.

how do I interact with a community I cannot connect to? Would I need to manipulate the URL in order to "access" it, although this gives the error page not found, of course. (Not the best method of poking another community.)

But that's interesting that it takes some time to sync or whatever. Unfortunately, this immediately creates the illusion that some communities don't exist, and causes people to create a double community. This just happened to me. I created c/whatstheword on my instance...

are you using the website, or an app? i can see the community, ~~but not the posts (presumably because they aren't synced)~~ (forgot i have lemmy.world blocked).

do you not see the community landing page at all? is there no 'subscribe' button? subscribing is the best way to trigger the sync job; i could try doing it for you, but i want to see if it's possible for you to do it first.

You cannot see the posts? There are only two posts. Are you sure

[–] onoira@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 5 months ago

whoops, i forgot i have lemmy.world blocked. i don't see comments or posts from that instance.

still tho, i wasn't getting the undiscovered 404 on dbzer0.

there was no subscribe button. Now it's working, as per top comment. On lemdro.id it is still unreachable: copy and paste the following in your browser (do not click, it may be split into two, which is hardly noticeable) https://lemdro.id/c/whatstheword@lemmy.world

EDIT: browser, FF

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !whatstheword@lemmy.world

i don't know about lemdroid. federation could be backlogged for aforementioned reasons.

the link you gave works fine for me in Firefox: clicking, dragging or pasting. the 404 likely indicates that lemdroid hasn't discovered that community yet; probably because it's still waiting to finish asking lemmy.world about it.

are you sure about that? on FF if I click on the first part of the link it redirects me to lemdroid, but clicking the part after the /c/, redirects me to dbzer0. Also different part of the link lights-up when hovering over it
