Yesterday a car drove up and back down my court and stopped outside my front gate, would the window down and took a photo (from what I could see). He then realised I was there and left. Not feeling overly safe, didn’t get numberplate so calling cops would be useless?

Dead end road in the sticks…..

Not good. Do you have cctv? Might still be worth reporting. The photo (?) sounds like might be casing the joint for robbery of tools/generator/copper piping etc. Which is a thing that's increasing.

Unfortunately even if you did get a plate, the cops can't do much anyways. Unless he was in your driveway or otherwise on your property, it's not illegal to drive down a dead end street. And although creepy, it's not illegal to take photos of people on private property if you're doing so from public property unless they have "a reasonable expectation of privacy", or people's houses

I get that but the fact that they took off when they saw me - that’s dodgy af. Fortunately my big dog was barking from the house, hopefully a deterrent if it’s casing for a break in.

Are you friendly with neighbours with security cameras?

Got them on my camera but just didn’t get the plate (they were trying to stay out of range methinks). Will realign a camera.

The neighbours might've caught them. You could do a letter drop in the court saying someone was taking photos from their car on DATE and TIME.
