Is your local better/cheaper than colesworth? I’ve got a really great local one and a bit shit local one, but both are so much more expensive than colesworth is not even funny.

My local is either on par or cheaper than colesworth, and quality and selection is good. I think it depends what suburb you live in. I’m in a middle suburb, but I think in inner areas the butcher would be catering to more gourmet styles, and shop rents are higher, so prices would be higher. If you are in an inner suburb, might be worth a trip to Queen vic or even Costco, bulk shop and freeze to get better value.

Finally went and tried the Footscray Market butchers, and the pricing is quite cheap compared to Colesworth.

I feel like people who say their local is cheaper are almost exclusively just rich enough to not notice the prices. The quality is probably much higher, sure, but price? Nah. None of the four or so near me are cheaper.

(Also, butchers don't put stuff out on clearance that can just go in the freezer until needed)

Different prices in different suburbs. Inner suburbs fancy butcher vs outer suburbs regular butcher, or markets. (But not farmers markets. Those are often niche expensive produce) So both statements can be equally true, butcher cheaper than supermarket or butcher more expensive than supermarket.

I'd love to find a cheaper butcher than the supermarket but I've looked a little bit and haven't had much luck with it sadly.

I went to a new place and I’ll give them a provisional no. But they did have a ‘Rehab sausage’ which purports to be hot. I shall report on the weekend. I really like the next geographically closest because they are Halal and thus have goat, but I eat lots of pig so not an overall solution. Best medium I can suggest is Rainbow at Highpoint.
