I don't think I can even find Red Delicious in the stores any more. The new varieties have really taken it's mealy blandness away.
It used to be incredible. It was bred for stability and aesthetics back innthe 80s which ruined it.
Makes sense. They're absolutely disgusting
nope I had the misfortune of eating them pretty sure you can still find em in morrisons bloody wallpaper paste mush and doesn't even taste good somehow my gramie likes them but she also likes plastic cheese and all that pink ladies are where it's at
Im guessing you're under 30 years old?
Why would you guess that when I'm talking about an apple variety that apparently isn't commonly found in stores anymore
Because red delicious are still common and if you are under 30 they have been trash your whole life because you were born AFTER the breeding programs that stripped its flavor. If you are over 40 you remember a stretch when they were good. If you are in your thirties it's going to be hit or miss.
They used to be remarkable but that's when they would not be entirely red.
I'm in my 50s and Red Delicious have always been tasteless and gritty.
Then you and your parents don't know how to select ripe apples.
