says the guy living in a palace
Disclaimer: not religious at all...but in all fairness to Pope Francis, he was a Jesuit, rejected living in the grand Papal apartment, and chose to live in a super simple 2 room apartment. The first pope to ever do so.
Every time I learn something new about him, I realize the Catholic Church must feel like they really fucked up by electing him.
Totally agree - he really tried to modernize the church as best he could. Apparently he stacked the cardinals with numerous progressives so hopefully they can keep the momentum up!
Like 80% of cardinals in office have been nominated by him.
Eh, he still fucking hated trans people. They kept their core values.
One step at a time...he was the most progressive pope ever...let's keep it up!
Yes, that's his small 2 room suite in the Vatican guesthouse (not the palace). For comparison, this article shows the difference between his quarters, the palace, and the homes of some arch bishops.
ETA: 2 room, not 2 bedroom suite.
Living with their secretary-priest is code for something?
Exactly ... and even though the Pope himself might have lowered his standards of living as the head of the church ... it's still a multinational organization that is basically a corporation that controls billions of dollars of wealth and real estate, not to mention the legions of church heads and professionals they employ and give millions to. All of it financed by common people everywhere who need that money more than the organization. All of it financed in order to maintain their control of thousands of real estate holdings and properties they control all over the world, not to mention having to finance a city state within one of the most expensive cities in the world in Rome, Italy.
Millions spent every year in order to just exist while they tell everyone that millions should be spent to feed the poor.
Personally, I have a lot of respect for the late pope .... but I have no respect for the organization he led.
