World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

My man, you are making excuses for the Russian Federation, who are currently genociding Ukrainian's along with other Russian minority groups.
Why?
If that's your take on my words, you either haven't read my other comments here or you're just another mindless tribalist clapping at anything that aligns with you views without even the slightest bit of analysis and viewing the world as "if you're not with us, you're against us", just like the MAGA crowd does.
The UK is the worst possible country to make such a suggestion because their actual actions in other, similar situations happening right now, are the very opposite of the principles they claim to want to uphold here - the people with fresh children's blood on their hands aren't the ones best suited to convince the World of the need for Justice.
The British politicians are de facto worsening the chances for Justice for Ukrainians (not even just Palestinians, whom they're actually helping murder in large numbers) because the leaders and even the people in most nations in the World do not believe their haughty words demanding "Justice" while their hands are dripping with the blood of innocents, are anything other than a geopolitical powerplay and propaganda: they're making it less likely that the World outside the West gets together with the West to make sure Putin and his cronies get the punishment they deserve.
This New Nuremberg idea would be far more likely to succeed if this suggestion came from a country like Spain or the Republic Of Ireland who have been Fair and Just in the matter of Genocide, and not involve Britain in any way form or shape, than coming from or involving Britain, where the concept of "Justice" is so flexible that the race of the Genociders and their victims means that the "We must have a trial like Nuremberg" (which, by the way, should be done for both cases) is only for some Genocides whilst "We must continue to ship weapons [to the Genociders]" is for other Genociders, depending on the ethnicity of them and their victims.
You are the one supporting the people who for petty political propaganda gains just had to go and parade themselves as the voice of the Justice Of The West whilst their actions say the very opposite, thus damaging things like International Rule Of Law and the West's voice on this by entrenching the idea that the reactions of the West are all hypocrisy (which they're not in many Western countries, but definitely are in Britain).
Only somebody motivated by British Nationalism and/or deeply brainwashed by the Press Environment in Britain (which is as bad as in the US) would think the UK is in any way form or shape a trusted spokesperson for the rest of the World on International Law and Justice Against Genociders, and that their hypocrite proclamations on this would inspire the World to come together for Justice and advance that cause.
Like a run of the mill sociopaths, for petty political point scoring and for the sake of doing a bit of a "we matter in the World" performance for internal consumption, these assholes are damaging the very thing they claim to defend.
If British politicians really wanted this that they're now suggesting to happen, they would've had some backroom discussions with other Western nations and gotten a more trustworthy country (which is not right now actively supporting a different Genocide) to voice this suggestion, only they didn't because this was never about Justice against Genociders or Humanitarianism.
