I signed up for hexbear out of morbid curiosity, that place feels like an insane asylum.

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 2 points 10 hours ago

This is a correct assessment:-).

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 2 points 15 hours ago

I was banned there as well, although maybe the ban is gone with the domain drama. It's their instance, they should run it how they want.

calling an instance with a large amount of trans people an "insane asylum" is such a telling thing. Go back to reddit you abelist transphobe

[–] 5redie8@sh.itjust.works 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah because there's absolutely no other reason that place would give off that impression, nosiree

It's strange that we can't judge people based off of their words, we have to somehow know their gender ideology through some miracle of long distance mind reading instead of just analyzing the content itself, regardless of anything else. Seems like people have lost the plot these days.

I've been in an insane asylum before, we didn't have gender identity as part of the program there.. everyone was shacked up together regardless of gender or identity, no doors allowed on any rooms or showers or anything. No contact with the outside world, no internet, no TV, no movies, no music, no books, nothing allowed. I was just noticing similar behavior to all of us at the asylum, that is all, it had nothing to do with gender or trans people whatsoever as we never talked about any of that in the asylum either. But okay, friend, I hope you have a great day.

It's a site by and for Communists and a safe space for queer users, it isn't that complicated. I'd also recommend not calling it an insane asylum, as @OpheliaAzure@lemmy.blahaj.zone said it has one of the biggest trans userbases on Lemmy and that's frequently used as a transphobic insult, not to mention the ableism.

I've been forced to stay at an insane asylum, I was only going based off my prior experiences is all, had no idea about the trans thing.

Fair enough, but I think you should just take care with that. Do a bit more research before jumping to insults that can be damaging to people's gender identity.

[–] TangledHyphae@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

In the insane asylum we didn't care about genders, we were all shacked up together regardless of identity or sex at birth, no doors were allowed on rooms or showers or anything, so I'm not sure where I'd be insulting genders with that statement.

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Referring to trans people as "insane" for being trans is transphobic, and a bit ableist. I'm not talking about your personal experience, but your presumably unintentional transphobia.

[–] TangledHyphae@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

I was referring to the posts, if you read my original comment I said nothing about trans or gender identity whatsoever. Hexbear when I signed up did not advertise itself as "trans only" or "trans centric" or anything gender related, so I was not aware. Please help me understand where you are getting those ideas. If anything it seems like if I consider a community similar to my behavioral health clinic experiences to be "transphobia" then you are insulting them as well. Again, we never discussed gender identity in the clinics.

Hexbear isn't "trans only," however according to surveys is about 50% trans/nonbinary, and is regularly pitched as one of the 2 largest trans positive instances, alongside Blahaj.zone.
