I know Europeans hate us Americans and I understand why. I've never supported Trump and have fought with my dollar, vote, and time, but I am just too ashamed to show my face in the EU any time soon.
As a person from Europe living in Canada, I'd say it's not that we hate Americans, we know there are lots of nice people there and a good chunk of you hate Trump as much as we do. But unfortunately we just kind of have to treat America the country as a hostile nation right now. Given that the US government is directly threatening Canada and actively betraying Europe, there's not much choice. It just is what it is.
Disclaimer: I don't speak for all Canadians and Europeans obviously, there are some Trumpy people in Canada and Europe too for some fucking reason. But amongst the people I've spoken to about it, that seems to be the general vibe.
You should absolutely be treating the US government as a hostile entity. Many Americans are also treating it as such, and are organizing emergency preparations (mainly go-bags) for things like martial law, civil war, and being targeted as a result of belonging to a prohibited minority group. You should take the US government's threats seriously. We are.
Most Europeans don't hate Americans and those who do are not worth being around anyway.
On the other hand... Yeah, your leadership's right now really sucks.
But if I had to wait for presentable leadership of my country to show my face abroad, I'd still be living at my parents...
