Therapists love CBT because it is easy and works for most people, but there are absolutely people and situations where it doesn’t just not work but is actively harmful. Like when you’re in a toxic relationship, trying to reframe all the shit making you miserable isn’t going to help you the way that realizing your relationship is toxic and getting out of it will.

And a good therapist will know that and not use it in inappropriate situations… but C’s get degrees, as they say, and when it’s just a high paying job rather than a calling a lot of people are fine writing off those it doesn’t work for as difficult or treatment resistant.

I don’t want to throw the baby out with the bath water or anything, it’s useful in many situations. Therapists just need to be more open to trying other methods as well. The best therapy I ever had was literally just guided talking about what I’ve been through and how it made me feel, no judgement or work sheets (BLEGH). Sometimes that’s what people need.
