The problem with delighting in DeSantis's humiliation is that there isn't a Republican to root for in his place.
If DeSantis fails... we get Trump, or Vivek ramoswami, or Mike Pence, or Chris Christie, or any of these other ghouls.
FTFY
Hmm, should i have the fascist, or fascist-lite? Tough call...
Try Fascist Zero. All the great bootlicking of fascism but none of the calories.
Mmm has all of the flavor of the real boot but I still feel light and ready to oppress minorities!
Did you see our ad? We got a bunch of hip young kids to dance in urban areas.
They can all be booed.
DeSantis is not better than trump. Is just as pretty and childish. He seems less volatile but equally dangerous. Let them know they are not wanted. If trump got boos from the start, we wouldn't be in this situation.
No one gives a fuck about DeSantis, including his base. The only relevant GOP candidate is Trump. It's absolutely impossible anyone else wins the primary unless drops out, gets disqualified, or dies.
Alright, hear me out, I hate him for how capricious he was but Christine is heads and shoulders above the rest of those clowns. He would actually be competent in the job.
I'm a new jerseyian and I'd never thought I'd be rooting for Christie but here we are. I would one hundred percent take him over any of the other republican candidates.
I have some Jersey roots and I'm feeling the same... It's amazing how remarkably terrible the GOP have become that Christie starts looking good.
He still doesn't have a chance in hell...he's not nearly as racist, bigoted, or Q'd up enough for the crazies that vote R.
I've been saying for years Christie would have been far better than the other Republican options in the 2016 election. At the very least, in the past, he worked with Democrats to achieve things. Which, of course, is why he'd never get the support of the Republican party.
I recognize he's not a good person, but of the Republican lot in that election, he was probably would have been the best President.
He is a twice elected gop governor in a solid blue state. Anyone like Meatball Ron would have never gotten elected.
Because he is a RINO who made his career running things instead of fighting cultural war bullshit.
I still don't want him as president.
It's sad to me that Pence seems like a reasonable candidate in this list.
Pence enabled Trump's presidency more than any of them. He was with Trump every step of the way until the very end.
His sole act of defiance was that he bravely ... didn't participate in a coup?!
And even after that he has pledged to support Trump for the presidency AGAIN even if Trump is convicted.
I didn't say I liked him, but just that he's not as bad as the other ones.
It's just Trump. None of the others in the primary are even close. There are really two things to be concerned about:
Vivek isn't a threat. No one likes him anywhere. Republicans hate him cuz he's brown, no way he'll win anything.
Yeah, I think you're right. He just over-performed in the last debate, and were republicans at all logically consistent he'd probably be their pick and I think he actually has a shot at winning over some independents and Dems that aren't paying attention. That said, Republicans obviously aren't consistent and that slipped my mind for a sec lol.
My sister, who is a Millennial conservative, loves him.
I think he's a "well, actually" guy with veneers.
That mental picture made me spill my coffee, too funny...
Economy was doing well in 2012 and 1996. The economy is not doing well right now. The last time an incumbent Democrat ran for relection during an economic downturn was Carter.
You are also forgetting that the GOP has been hard at work the past few years making sure certain people are not going to be able to vote and even if they do that the state can override it.
I'm not forgetting that at all, I'm saying that they are so actually unpopular that even voter suppression they've done and continue to do will likely not be enough in the current conditions.
Also, in a traditional sense, we can't really say the economy is not doing well. Record job growth/creation, record low unemployment, strong market, etc. The places the economy is not doing well are related to wealth inequality which is not solely, but primarily a result of republican trickle down policy for the last 40 years and them eroding the middle class at every turn.
At basically any other time, Biden's presidency would be considered a rampant success, especially after the sheer destruction of the last admin. If he doesn't coast to reelection, I'd probably blame that primarily on the amount of propaganda that starts at Fox and manages to propagate out.
Inflation and low workforce participation rate.
My prediction: Trump wins the nomination, and DeSantis starts his own party and siphons Republican votes, ala Ross Perot. (Or the reverse, Trump loses the nomination and starts his own party and siphons R votes.)
I can't see it. He doesn't have the balls to go on his own. He tries this and the party never forgets. Perot wasnt a politician.
DeSantis has made very careful, calculated moves his whole career until recently. If he lost he'd probably wait his turn and try to pivot strategies.
I hope his failure to be Trump 2.0 kills his chances.
It is like getting better from some illness, you are just delaying the unavoidable but you still get to be happy for a while.
Wow its almost like all republicans are ghouls.
