The 58-year-old convicted felon accused of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump as he golfed in Florida in mid-September filed documents Thursday demanding the recusal of U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon from presiding over the criminal case, citing the Trump-appointed judge’s dismissal of the former president’s Mar-a-Lago classified documents prosecution, Trump’s ensuing lavish praise of her in public, and the “prospect” of her “promotion” to the U.S. Supreme Court should Trump win the 2024 election.

How does she consistently end up assigned to Trumps related cases? How small is the judges pool in that area?

[–] dcpDarkMatter@kbin.earth 85 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

There's only 3 federal judges in that district.

[–] andrewta@lemmy.world 49 points 3 weeks ago

Well if there's only three then the pool is quite small. But I do think in this case it should be handed to another judge.

This article does a good job of explaining how she was assigned to the documents case last year, and still applies to how cases are assigned in her district in general. There just aren't a lot of judges in the pool of available options.

And why is there only one picture of this woman?

[–] Zoboomafoo@slrpnk.net 23 points 3 weeks ago

She just refuses to take any case unless her handlers tell her to, so her schedule is always open
