I wonder if this is his response to having his events called boring. Is he just thinking "people won't leave if I start playing groovy music".
This feels more like he has contractual obligations to be on stage for a certain number of minutes.
it's one of those pop idol malicious compliance tantrums. "so I have stand on stage for the full 90 minutes?"
"ill show them...."
This interpretation gives him a lot of credit for thinking things through and caring about contracts.
