Same is true with physical. It's just harder for them to take it away.

I was thinking the same thing. I remember playing doom on pc and it was pretty clear then who the rights holder is..

They just couldn't remove access, so it felt a lot less like I was "renting" the privilege

I used to be an account manager for scientific software. We were pretty explicit on the limitation of support we would give on old licenses
